FGCU Women's Soccer: FL vs AZ

The FGCU women's soccer team continues their series in Arizona after finishing up a two-day tournament called the FGCU Tournament, which featured Kent State and Liberty. FAU was involved in the tournament and played Kent State and Liberty, but did not play FGCU.

On Friday night the Eagles (6-1-0) beat the Golden Flashes (1-3-0 at the time, now 3-3) 2-0 thanks to goals from sophomore transfer Marjorie Boilesen and senior Lauren Greene.

On Sunday afternoon, FGCU faced Liberty (1-2-2 at the time, now 2-3-2) in a rematch. In the end, the Eagles won 3-2 in a nail biter of a game. Boilesen had her fifth goal of the season while junior transfer Holly Fritz scored her first two goals of the season including one to give FGCU the lead and was the potential winning goal too.

Yesterday, FGCU played Power 5 Arizona (1-2-2) in the University of Arizona and won 1-0. The lone goal was thanks to senior transfer Varin Ness. The Eagles took only two shots while the Wildcats to 19 shots.

It was the defense that set the tone for the Eagles. Thanks to sophomore goalie Melissa Weck who had 10 saves in the game and a strong defense from redshirt senior Ashley Parks, junior Camille Knudstrup, sophomore Lindsey Patton and freshman Zoey Spitzer, the Eagles managed to tame the Wildcats.

The Eagles will be prepared to face their second Power 5 team in Arizona: the Arizona State Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils (1-3-1) are also in the tournament and have never faced FGCU. They recently faced Texas Tech and lost 1-2.

What will the outcome be in the end? Will the Eagles handle the heat and stop the fire in the Sun Devils? Or will the Sun Devils clip the wings off the Eagle for the first time matching up?

Game will be at 6 pm eastern/ 3 pm pacific.
