The top-seeded FGCU women's golf team defeated Akron and Western Michigan to capture the Mid-American Match Play Challenge championship on Tuesday at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
"What a way to start the season. I am very proud of the team for finishing out this win," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "It's never easy to secure a victory even when you are the top-seeded team in match play. This morning, we started out really rough but pulled it together and played phenomenal golf on the back nine. We were able to take that confidence into the championship match and pull out the win. Kudos to Akron and Western Michigan for great play today."
The trio of Sarah Edwards, Natalia Nassar and Ailsa Clark each won both of their head-to-head matches to carry the Eagles to the title. Edwards took care of business first in the championship, clinching her win on the 14th hole, just before Clark won hers on the 15th hole. Nassar, meanwhile, won the 17th hole to clinch the title-securing third win.
Tuesday's victory represented the program's first Mid-American Match Play Challenge championship after two consecutive runner-up finishes. The Eagles also finished third in 2017.
The Green and Blue will be back in action in two weeks at the Amelia Island College on Feb. 17-18. FGCU finished second as a team in the event last year, while Edmonds captured medalist honors.

FGCU WGOLF: 42nd Annual Pat Bradley Invite Day Three Recap
The FGCU women's golf team shot a final round 298 (+10) on Tuesday in the 42nd Annual Pat Bradley Invitational to finish third among 17 teams. Their 54-hole total of 874 (+10) is the second best in program history, just ahead of their 876 from last year's event.
"Hats off to Stetson and Florida Atlantic for their wonderful play," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "I think this will be a good learning experience for our program. We definitely know what we need to work on for the spring, but also know that we can be in contention. We really tried out there today, but unfortunately you can't win tournaments with counting scores in the 80s. I truly feel that if we put in the work this offseason that we can do great things this spring."
FGCU finished 17 strokes behind their lowest team score over 54 holes, but just five strokes shy of the lowest score in relation to par. All five of their lowest 54-hole team scores have come in the past year and a half.

The Eagles entered the final round in a tie for second place with Stetson, but the Hatters fired a final round 280 (-8) to claim the team championship by four strokes over Florida Atlantic, who shot an 860 (-4).
Senior Ailsa Clark paced the Green and Blue in the event by finishing with an even par 54-hole score of 216, as she tallied a final round 73 (+1). It was the 12th time in program history that someone has produced that total or better, and she finished in a tie for 13th individually. Additionally, she had just four bogey or worse scores over the whole tournament.
Meanwhile, Sarah Edwards finished just one stroke behind Clark with a 217 (+1). The freshman tied Laura Edmonds for the team's third-round low of 72 (E) and finished in a tie for 15th place on the strength of her team-high three birdies.
Edmonds got better each round of the event (75-73-72). After 11 bogey or worse holes for her through the first three rounds, she had just one on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 24th.

James Madison: "We didn't quite finish the way we were hoping to today," said head coach Tommy Baker. "But we had a really strong week that we can definitely build on as we get ready to close out the fall season in a couple weeks. We're also excited for Kendall to pick up her first top-10 finish after a great week of play and we're looking forward to seeing her game continue to get stronger."
Georgia State: “Emma (Berlin) came through with a great round today,” head coach Jessica Steward said. “It is great to see her starting to play so well. She is really starting to figure it out. I think that she is going to keep improving and as she learns, will only get better and become a key contributor to our team.
Jacksonville: "This week was a good challenge," said Head Coach Kathryn Dougan. "This group is determined and really held tough all week. We've got a few things to tighten up in practice, but I am excited for where we are headed going into the spring semester."
Northern Arizona: "It was not our best outing," said head women's golf coach Brad Bedortha. "However, now me know what we need to work on in our last practices leading up to the end of the 2019 fall season. I have full faith that we will be able to come out stronger next time out to close the season."
Texas A&M CC: "It was great to see this team finally break 300, said head coach Joni Stephens. "I knew they were capable, but we have been struggling with finishing our rounds and giving up too many strokes from unforced errors. Today they did a great job of staying in the moment and taking care of each shot, and most importantly, we finished strong as a team. FGCU WGOLF: 42nd Annual Pat Bradley Invite Day Two Recap
The FGCU women's golf team had another great round on Monday in the 42nd Annual Pat Bradley Invitational with a second-round best 289 (+1) as the Eagles moved up three spots and are now tied for second with a 576 (E) entering Tuesday's final round.
"Today was a solid round overall for us," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We got in our own way a couple times, but rebounded very well. Scoring was a little more difficult as the wind picked up so I am proud of us for putting up the low round of the day. Tomorrow will be a fight for the hardware, but we are looking forward to the challenge and hope to close out the fall on a high note."
FGCU is tied with Stetson for second place behind Florida Atlantic, who holds just a one-stroke lead at 575 (-1). Those three schools are at least three strokes ahead of host Florida International in fourth place and eight strokes better than Cincinnati in fifth place.
The Green and Blue's 576 (E) is the third lowest 36-hole team score in program history, as well as the second-lowest in relation to par behind their 570 (-6) in the Johnie Imes Invitational last year.

"There were scores out there to be had and we did a great job of executing and posting a really strong score. We moved up the leaderboard and put ourselves in a good position to have a great finish here if we come out with the same focus and drive on Tuesday morning."
Georgia State: “Today was another solid performance by Chloe,” head coach Jessica Steward said. “Playing later in the day today meant breezier conditions, and the entire field’s scores justify that the course played more difficult than yesterday. Instead, Chloe stayed strong and posted another sub-par round. As a team, we met our goal of improving on the par 3’s, but we’re a little disappointed with our finish. Our focus tomorrow will be staying focused and in control, playing all the way through the last hole.”
Northern Arizona: "Today just was not our day," said head women's golf coach Brad Bedortha. "It is very humid and its a different environment but we do not use that as an excuse. End of the day we just have to play better and perform at the standard that we know, and have, competed at.

Cincinnati: "The team had to battle some tough conditions today," said head coach Janet Carl. "We are very proud of all the effort as the team fought hard until the end. The difference between yesterday and today was simply birdie putts dropping. Today we had a total of nine birdies which hurt us for sure. Out of the top-six teams, next lowest birdie total was 12. The team needs to go out tomorrow with the same strategy and commitment and see if we can get a few more putts to drop. This team just needs to continue to believe in themselves."
Gonzaga: "The wind was up today, which made the course harder than I thought. It was the first time we've seen wind since we've been here, but we played hard all day," head coach Brad Rickel said. "We gave some back the last three to four holes. We will have to play a really good 18 holes tomorrow if we want to be near the top in the end. Quynn [Duong] continued to be solid and will be looking to go low tomorrow. All five in our lineup are contributing."
James Madison: "I'm extremely happy with the way we played today,"said head coach Tommy Baker. "There were scores out there to be had and we did a great job of executing and posting a really strong score. We moved up the leaderboard and put ourselves in a good position to have a great finish here if we come out with the same focus and drive on Tuesday morning."
Georgia State: “Today was another solid performance by Chloe,” head coach Jessica Steward said. “Playing later in the day today meant breezier conditions, and the entire field’s scores justify that the course played more difficult than yesterday. Instead, Chloe stayed strong and posted another sub-par round. As a team, we met our goal of improving on the par 3’s, but we’re a little disappointed with our finish. Our focus tomorrow will be staying focused and in control, playing all the way through the last hole.”
Northern Arizona: "Today just was not our day," said head women's golf coach Brad Bedortha. "It is very humid and its a different environment but we do not use that as an excuse. End of the day we just have to play better and perform at the standard that we know, and have, competed at.
FGCU WGOLF: 42nd Annual Pat Bradley Invite Day One Recap
The FGCU women's golf team fired a 287 (-1) and sit tied for fifth through the first of three rounds in the 42nd Pat Bradley Invitational at Lakewood Ranch Country Club on Sunday.
The Eagles are tied with Florida International among a stacked field that sees the 17 teams separated by just 21 strokes. The Eagles and Panthers sit just one stroke behind Stetson for fourth and four back of South Alabama in first. Additionally, the 287 is the sixth lowest round in program history and fifth lowest in relation to par.

"We had a solid start to the tournament today," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "Everyone was pretty solid, and even if someone wasn't striking the ball as well as they wanted, they were able to put up a good score. Our upperclassmen stepped up for us with some low scores. Tomorrow, our focus is to keep our foot on the gas and try to put ourselves in a good position to come out with a win on Tuesday."
Those upperclassmen - Natalia Nassar and Ailsa Clark - both finished under par for the Green and Blue.
Nassar is currently tied for 10th after a 2-under 70. After opening 1-under on the front nine behind a birdie on the 12th hole, she recovered from her lone bogey with two more birdies on holes one and seven on the back nine.
Clark shot a 1-under 71 and sits tied for 16th. She started 1-over through her first six holes, but birdied the 16th and seventh holes.
Just behind those two Sarah Edwards, who had another solid performance with an even par 72. She birdied her first two holes and then persevered through four bogeys over a seven hole stretch by producing two more birdies on the third and sixth holes.
Another player who bounced back from some turbulence was Isabella Portokalis, who opened 4-over on her first seven holes. However, she birdied the 18th and went 1-under over the back nine to finish at 2-over.
Laura Edmonds rounded out the lineup with a 75. The sophomore tied Edwards with a team-high four birdies.
The start and the finish for FGCU proved to be valuable. After producing five birdies on the first three holes, they added six more over the final four.
Notes:
Interestingly, FGCU's top five lowest rounds all came last year, and the previous sixth-lowest round came this season in the Johnie Imes Invitational. Over the past year plus, the Eagles have produced the top eight lowest rounds and nine of the 11 best rounds in program history in relation to par.

"We are excited to have an opportunity to end our fall campaign on a high note," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said of the 54-hole event. "The Pat Bradley Invitational has been a staple in our schedule, as we have been going to this event for many years and at Lakewood Ranch since 2012. We should be very comfortable at this course and able to help the newcomers manage the course nicely. We look forward to carrying the momentum of our last couple events over and finishing strong."
It will be a familiar tournament for the Green and Blue, who have competed in the event in each of the past 13 seasons. Last year, the duo of Laura Edmonds (T-14th) and Natalia Nassar (T-17th) finished among the top 20. Edmonds had a final round 68 to finish at 217 (+1), while Nassar finished with a 69 and 70 in the final two rounds to finish at 218 (+2).
Ailsa Clark did not compete in the event last year, but shot a 224 (+8) to finish in the top 20 two years ago. She was anchored by a 69 in the second round, helping to improve her 241 (+25) score from the year before. Nassar had the same score as Clark that year, thus making this the third time the junior has competed in the event.
This will be the fourth and final event of the fall season for the Green and Blue, who finished second among 11 teams at the Jupiter Invitational this past Tuesday. Edmonds (212, -1) finished second in that tournament after also finishing second in the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 2.

FGCU WGolf: Jupiter Invitational Day Two Recap
The FGCU women's golf team shot a final round 297 at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club on Tuesday to finish second among 11 teams in the Jupiter Invitational behind a total of 884 (+32). Sophomore Laura Edmonds captured her second consecutive runner-up finish with an even par 213.
"We had a very solid finish and a big congrats to Laura for her second straight runner-up finish," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "Overall, we didn't have our A games this week, but really grinded it out for a good tournament. We have a quick turnaround for FIU so we are going to focus a lot on short game and course management."
Edmonds, coming off a career-best 210 (-6) at the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 2, shot a 1-over 72 on Tuesday to finish with her even par 54-hole score. She finished just one stroke behind Florida International's Agueda Cortilla-Mas for first place.
Sarah Edwards, competing in just her second collegiate tournament, shot a final round 74 to finish in a four-way tie for seventh place with a 219 (+6). She now has four straight rounds at 75 or under. Another top finisher was Ailsa Clark, who had a final round 73 to finish at 220 (+7).
Natalia Nassar competed individually for the Eagles, but finished among the top 15. She also had a final round 73, which gave her a 54-hole 225 (+12) and was a season-best performance.
FGCU has now finished among the top two in six of their past eight tournaments dating back to Feb. 5 of last year.

FGCU WGolf: Jupiter Invitational Day One Recap
A trio of Eagles sits among the top 10 individuals as the FGCU women's golf team has positioned itself in second place among 11 teams at the Jupiter Invitational at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club with a 587 (+19) through the first 36 holes on Monday.
Sophomore Laura Edmonds, coming off a second-place finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational, fired a 141 (-1) and sits in second - just two strokes behind Florida International's Agueda Cortilla-Mas. Freshman Sarah Edwards, meanwhile, shot a 145 (+3) and is in eighth place. Senior Ailsa Clark's 147 (+5) has her tied with three other individuals in 10th. As a team, FGCU is just seven strokes back of Florida International for first place after their second-round 292 led all teams.
"Overall, we were pretty solid," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "I think we made a couple of big numbers that could have been eliminated with course management. We talked a few things over after the round and feel ready to go Tuesday. FGCU WGOLF: A-SUN Championship Day Three Recap
For the first time in program history, the FGCU women's golf team placed three players among the top 10 at the A-SUN Championship as the Eagles produced a 54-hole 923 (+47) to finish second among seven teams at Chateau Elan's Legends Course on Tuesday.
"We played very well today," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "A top-two finish is something to be proud of as the A-SUN is very strong. To have three players in the top 10 and two in the top five is an awesome showing."
The Green and Blue recorded a final-round 305 (+13), which was lowest among all teams. Kennesaw State won the team championship with a 910 (+34), finishing 13 strokes ahead of FGCU and 26 ahead of North Florida.
Sophomore Natalia Nassar and freshman Laura Edmonds each fired a 76 (+3) on Tuesday, which allowed them to finish fourth and tied for fifth, respectively. They were each named to the all-tournament team. Meanwhile, senior Kelsy Holbert shot a 79 in her final collegiate round to finish in eighth place.

FGCU WGOLF: A-SUN Championship Day Two Recap
Sophomore Natalia Nassar fired a two-under 71 in the second round of the A-SUN Championship this afternoon to lead the FGCU women's golf team to a second-place standing entering Tuesday's final round at Chateau Elan's Legends Course.
"I thought we played much better today," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We managed the course very well and when we did miss, it was key that we were in the proper spots. I am very proud of the way we finished, and we have some good momentum going into tomorrow. Natalia finished her round on fire and really helped us turn in a good team score. Natalia, Laura, and Kelsy are all in a great position boasting Top-10 standings. We are looking to come out tomorrow with the same mindset we had today."
Nassar jumped 10 spots in the standings in large part due to three consecutive birdies to close out her round. Outside of a bogey on the ninth, she finished with a par on every other hole and sits seven strokes off Kennesaw State's Medy Thavong, who leads the tournament after a four-under 69 on Monday.
The Green and Blue entered the round three strokes behind North Florida, but jumped the Ospreys behind a second-round 301, which was 12 strokes better than their in-state rival. FGCU's 618 is 19 strokes behind first-place Kennesaw State, who has the top three individuals in the standings after a 290 on Monday.
FGCU finished the day strong by shooting a collective four-under over the final three holes. Freshman Laura Edmonds finished second on the team with a pair of birdies on Monday, including one on the 17th, and is positioned in a tie for fifth individually. Meanwhile,senior Kelsy Holbert shot her second-consecutive 77 of the tournament and is tied for seventh.
Thus, the trio of Nassar, Edmonds and Holbert are all in the top 10. Should that remain through Tuesday's final round, it would be the first time in program history the Eagles have done that in the A-SUN Championship.
Senior Madeline Marck-Sherk birdied the 16th to finish at 77 (+5) for the day. She is tied for 13th as she goes for her third career top-10 finish at the event. Junior Ailsa Clark is tied for 20th with a two-round 167 (+21).

FGCU WGOLF: Loaded Brickyard Collegiate Day One Recap
The FGCU women's golf team shot a 612 (+36) on the opening day of the Brickyard Collegiate on Monday, which has the Eagles positioned in a tie for 12th-place in a loaded field that features 11 teams ranked among the top-100 of the latest GolfStat rankings.
The teams battled through a nearly two-hour lightning delay in a long opening day, and they'll conclude the event with 18 holes on Tuesday via an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
"It was a battle out there just from a weather standpoint and it being a marathon day," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "I think we are putting too much pressure on ourselves and just need to go out tomorrow and play more freely."
Senior Madeline Marck-Sherk, behind her second-round 73, is tied for 30th individually and leads the Eagles with a 150 (+6). Sophomore Natalia Nassar checks in second on the team with a 153 (+9), which has her tied for 47th.
The trio of freshman Laura Edmonds (154, +10), senior Kelsy Holbert (155, +11) and junior Ailsa Clark (158, +14) are all separated by four strokes.

Following Tuesday's final round, which concludes the regular season, the Green and Blue will compete in the A-SUN tournament April 21-23 at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

FGCU WGOLF: Loaded Brickyard Collegiate Preview
The FGCU women's golf team will look to make its presence known when it competes in a loaded field at the Brickyard Collegiate at Brickyard Golf Course beginning Monday.
"We're looking forward to testing our games against some of the top teams in the country," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We will need a lot of patience this week as it looks like we are going to be playing in the rain. I think this will be a great opportunity for us to show we can compete with some of the best in the country."
The 15-team tournament, hosted by Mercer University, will feature 13 teams ranked within the GolfStat top-100. FGCU checks in at 108 and will enter the event having finished among the top two in four consecutive tournaments to open the spring season.
The event will mark the regular-season finale for the Green and Blue, who will compete in the A-SUN tournament April 21-23 at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

The Eagles are coming off of a top-3 finish in the John Kirk Panther Invitational in Stockbridge, Georgia, hosted by Georgia State. The Eagles finished runner-up behind USF.
FGCU is being led by freshman Laura Edmonds, who has a 73.00 stroke average and a team-best six par-or-better rounds. She has finished among the top 10 in four of the six tournaments she has competed in, including each of the past three. Her season-best second-place finish came in the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 3, and she recorded a team-best seventh-place tie in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate on April 2.
Another underclassman, sophomore Natalia Nassar, is second on the team with a 74.89 stroke average through her six events. She has produced four par-or-better rounds this year, highlighted by a 3-under and 2-under second and third round, respectively, at the Pat Bradley Invite on Oct. 21-22. Similar to Edmonds, Nassar's best finish came at the Johnie Imes Invitational (16th-place), although her best 54-hole score came with a 218 in the Pat Bradley Invite.
A pair of seniors - Madeline Marck-Sherk (74.81) and Kelsy Holbert (75.05) - have competed in seven tournaments.
Marck-Sherk recorded a season-best finish at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate by tying for 10th, although her best 54-hole score (220) came in the Pat Bradley Invite. She has four par-or-better rounds, including three in the final round of tournaments.
Holbert has five par-or-better rounds this year, led by a 4-under in the second-round of the Johnie Imes Invite, where she had a season-best 14th-place finish.
Junior Ailsa Clark, who won the Spring Break Shootout on March 12, is producing a career-low 75.75 stroke average. In her first career collegiate win, she tallied two sub-70 rounds, including a program record 67 in the opening round. Her 54-hole 206 was also an FGCU record.

FGCU WGOLF: John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate Day Three Recap
The FGCU women's golf team registered its fourth-straight top-2 finish with a final round 307 (+19) at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club on Tuesday.
"We managed to come away with another second-place finish but, overall, we definitely didn't play our best this event," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "Our short games and putting was not up to par and it cost us far too many shots. We have a quick turnaround and are back in action in a week so we will put in some hours the next couple of days to ensure we are ready."
The Eagles shot a 54-hole total of 912 (+48) to tie Murray State for second. South Florida (890, +26) won the event. Freshaman Laura Edmonds shot a final-round 74 (+2) to tie for seventh and record her third straight and fourth overall top-10 finish of her freshman year.
Senior Madeline Marck-Sherk led the Green and Blue in the final round with an even-par 72. She finished with a 226 (+10), which was just one stroke shy of matching Edmonds. In doing so, she produced a season-best finish with a 10th-place tie.
Senior Kelsy Holbert and sophomoreNatalia Nassar shot a 232 and 235, respectively, to finish in ties for 28th and 32nd. Junior Ailsa Clark finished third on the team on Tuesday with a 79 (+7) to check in tied for 44th.
This was FGCU's best placement among three top-5 finishes in five appearances at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate.

JU: "The golf course played tough for everyone," said head coach Jennifer Borocz. "We need to have a good couple of weeks to prepare for conference. The team is hungry after this event, so we are excited to see how they will bounce back."
Appalachian State: "We really stressed how important it was to make pars and limit big numbers," said head coach Heather Brown.
Eastern Washington: "This wasn't the finish we were looking for," said head coach Brenda Howe. "We dug ourselves a pretty good sized hole in our first four holes and couldn't climb out. Madalyn Ardueser and Alexa Clark played well all week and had great finishes in the individual standings. Next week, we really need to work on our 3-5 positions, and make sure we're staying mentally strong each round. They got rattled early in the last two rounds, and we need to work on how we handle the emotions and make sure to maintain a competitive mindset."
ULM: "The ladies struggled a bit this week with a slow start," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "We played much better today but sort of limped in late. We'll be competing in the Murray State Jan Weaver Invitational later this week, and we hope it's a competitive tune-up for the Sun Belt Championships."

FGCU WGOLF: John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate Day Two Recap
The FGCU women's golf team, led by a second-round 74 from senior Kelsy Holbert, are in fourth place at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club entering Tuesday's final round.
The Eagles have shot a 605 (+29) through 36 holes and sit two strokes behind third-place Oral Roberts. On Monday, they were victims of eight double or triple-bogeys. Had they done no worse than bogey each of those holes, they would be tied with Murray State and South Florida (596 (+20) for first place.
"We didn't have our best stuff today and will need to rally (in the final round)," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We made some mental errors and missed a lot of easy up and downs around the green. On Tuesday, we'll look to regroup and attack the scoreable holes. If we can limit our mistakes and have nothing more than bogey, we will have a shot of winning the tournament."
Holbert opened the day with three bogeys over the first four holes and sat at 3-over despite a birdie on the sixth. However, she went 1-under on the back nine behind a pair of birdies on the 14th and 18th holes and sits in a tie for eighth-place.
The duo of freshman Laura Edmonds (77) and sophomore Natalia Nassar (78) are tied for 15th-place, just one stroke behind Holbert's 36-hole score of 150. Edmonds had two birdies, but was hurt by a trio of double bogeys. Nassar overcame a triple and a double-bogey by tying Holbert with a team-high three birdies, including two on the final six holes.
Senior Madeline Marck-Sherk trimmed four strokes off her first-round score with a 75 (+3). She sank birdies on the third and sixth holes and was one of two players, along with Holbert, who didn't do worse than bogey any hole.

The Eagles have shot a 605 (+29) through 36 holes and sit two strokes behind third-place Oral Roberts. On Monday, they were victims of eight double or triple-bogeys. Had they done no worse than bogey each of those holes, they would be tied with Murray State and South Florida (596 (+20) for first place.
"We didn't have our best stuff today and will need to rally (in the final round)," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We made some mental errors and missed a lot of easy up and downs around the green. On Tuesday, we'll look to regroup and attack the scoreable holes. If we can limit our mistakes and have nothing more than bogey, we will have a shot of winning the tournament."
Holbert opened the day with three bogeys over the first four holes and sat at 3-over despite a birdie on the sixth. However, she went 1-under on the back nine behind a pair of birdies on the 14th and 18th holes and sits in a tie for eighth-place.
The duo of freshman Laura Edmonds (77) and sophomore Natalia Nassar (78) are tied for 15th-place, just one stroke behind Holbert's 36-hole score of 150. Edmonds had two birdies, but was hurt by a trio of double bogeys. Nassar overcame a triple and a double-bogey by tying Holbert with a team-high three birdies, including two on the final six holes.
Senior Madeline Marck-Sherk trimmed four strokes off her first-round score with a 75 (+3). She sank birdies on the third and sixth holes and was one of two players, along with Holbert, who didn't do worse than bogey any hole.

FGCU WGOLF: John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate Day One Recap
Sophomore Natalia Nassar fired an opening-round 73 (+1), while senior Madeline Marck-Sherk sank a hole-in-one on the 16th to highlight first-round action at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate as the FGCU women's golf team sits in second place with a 301 (+13).
The Eagles sit 10 strokes back of Murray State (291, +3) and are leading a group of seven teams separated by six strokes in second through seventh-place. Meanwhile, Nassar's 73 is tied for her second-best opening-round score of the year. She birdied the first and 13th holes and sits in a tie for fifth individually.
"We put up a decent round," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "The conditions were pretty tough with the cold and the wind. We managed to battle through, but left some shots out there on a couple easy holes and the par-5's. I believe we will be able to clean those up before the next round and put up a good score."
In addition to Nassar, FGCU received another solid round from freshman Laura Edmonds, who registered a team-high three birdies and finished with a 74 (+2) to give the Eagles a pair of golfers in the top 10. It was the 12th non match-play round of shooting 74 or lower for Edmonds to open her collegiate career.

FGCU WGOLF: Spring Break Shootout Day Two Recap
Junior Ailsa Clark fired another sub-70 round to capture medalist honors and lead the FGCU women's golf team to a record-destroying first-place finish in the Spring Break Shootout at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club on Tuesday. This is the third straight top-2 finish for the Green and Blue through three spring events, and it's their first title since last year's MSU Citrus Classic.
After a record-tying 137 (-5) on Monday, Clark shot a two-under 69 to finish with a program-record 54-hole score of 206, which is five strokes better than Briana Carlson's 211 in 2011.
"Ailsa played phenomenal golf this week," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "She has been working so hard on her game, and it is great to see it paying off for her. She was so instrumental in our win."
Along with another third-round 69 from freshman Laura Edmonds, the Eagles tied defending champion Western Kentucky with an 857 (+5), but won the event via a fifth-player tiebreaker. Edmonds had another stellar performance as the freshman fired an even-par 213 to tie for fourth-place individually. She improved her score by two strokes each round.
As a team, the Green and Blue's 857 (+5) is 19 strokes better than the program's previous 54-hole team low of 876, which they set twice this past fall. In fact, it's also seven strokes better than those two performances in relation to par.
"This group is so good at finishing srong and grinding it out for every shot," Trew said. "In the end, it came down to a scorecard playoff and one shot. I am so happy for this team and can't say enough good things about them."
Outside of Clark and Edmonds, two others also finished in the top 20 - senior Kelsy Holbert and sophomore Natalia Nassar. Those two each shot a 220 (+7) and tied for 18th-place individually, while senior Madeline Marck-Sherk finished with back-to-back rounds of 74 (+3) to close the event with a 224 (+11).

Clark needs to shoot a 73 or better in Tuesday's final round to break Carlson's 54-hole record of 211.
"I can't say enough about Ailsa's play," Trew said on Clark. "She is one of the biggest reasons why we are in this position. She has been working very hard, and I am happy to see it pay off."

The event, which is being co-hosted by FGCU and Western Kentucky, will feature 15 teams at the par-71, 6,056-yard course. Monday's schedule will include two rounds, and Tuesday will feature 18 holes. All three rounds will feature a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
"We are in the thick of our season and have had some very good practices as of late," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We got a few days off over the break to recuperate and work on what we needed to individually. We are very familiar with Lake Jovita and are looking to come away with a win this week."

The Eagles shot a 905 (+41) to finish second in the 16-team Amelia Island College on Feb. 19. Edmonds shot a 219 (+3) to earn medalist honors, while Marck-Sherk (T-12th, 225, +9) and Nassar (T-25th, 229, +13) also finished in the top 25. For Edmonds, her performance allowed her to capture the second ASUN golfer of the week award of her freshman year.
Event History:
This will be the third year the Green and Blue has competed in the Spring Break Shootout after a third-place finish among 14 last year and a fourth-place finish among 13 in 2017. Marck-Sherk finished fourth last year with a 222 (+6), which included a second-round 71, while Holbert tied for 12th with a 228 (+12). Two years ago, Holbert led all current players with a 24th-place tie via a 230 (+14).

The Eagles shot a 905 (+41) to finish second in the 16-team Amelia Island College on Feb. 19. Edmonds shot a 219 (+3) to earn medalist honors, while Marck-Sherk (T-12th, 225, +9) and Nassar (T-25th, 229, +13) also finished in the top 25. For Edmonds, her performance allowed her to capture the second ASUN golfer of the week award of her freshman year.
Event History:
This will be the third year the Green and Blue has competed in the Spring Break Shootout after a third-place finish among 14 last year and a fourth-place finish among 13 in 2017. Marck-Sherk finished fourth last year with a 222 (+6), which included a second-round 71, while Holbert tied for 12th with a 228 (+12). Two years ago, Holbert led all current players with a 24th-place tie via a 230 (+14).

FGCU W. Golf: Amelia Island Collegiate Day Two Recap
Freshman Laura Edmonds battled tough weather conditions to shoot a final-round 75, capture first-place individually and lead the FGCU women's golf team to a second-place finish in the Amelia Island Collegiate on Tuesday.
The Eagles shot a 305 (+17) in the final round to finish at 905 (+41) over the three-round event at Amelia National Golf Club. Edmonds (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Cypress Bay HS), who is just a freshman, recorded a 219 (+3) for the tournament and won the event via a one-hole playoff with North Florida's Mindy Herrick.
It was the second top-two finish for Edmonds over four stroke-play tournaments so far in the Green and Blue, joining her second-place finish in the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 3.
"I'm so very happy for Laura on her win today," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "I️ don't think she's used to those conditions and her score today was very solid. In the playoff she did not show any signs of nerves, and I️ think this is the first of many wins for her."
With the result, FGCU produced its second-consecutive runner-up finish to open the spring and the team's fourth-straight top-5 finish dating back to the fall.
"I'm very pleased with our play today," Trew said. "Once we got to our ninth hole, it began to rain and wind gusts were around 30 mph. With the tough conditions, I️ am very proud of the way we grinded out the round. Scoring conditions were very difficult and we played well enough to move up to second place. I️ think this will give us confidence moving forward as we didn't have our best games but still did very well in the tournament."
North Florida (894, +30) won the team championship, while Marshall (907, +43) finished third. The Green and Blue also finished ahead of A-SUN rival Jacksonville (7th, 922, +58).
Outside of Edmonds, senior Madeline Marck-Sherk recorded a top-15 finish behind her 225 (+9). She overcame a +3 over her first five holes to birdie the ninth and 17th holes, as well as eagle the 15th. Sophomore Natalia Nassar tied Edmonds for the team's final-round low score with 75 en route to a 229 (+13) overall, which placed her in a tie for 25th.
Junior Ailsa Clark (232, +16) and senior Kelsy Holbert (238, +22) rounded out FGCU's lineup with ties for 30th and 53rd, respectively, among 86 golfers.
