The FGCU men's golf team remained in fifth place after Monday's second round of the 2019 ASUN Championships, which is being held at the par-72, 7,032-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
The Eagles shot 6-over-par 294 Monday, which was an improvement by 14 strokes on their opening-round effort. They sit in a tie for fifth with North Alabama (317-285) at 26-over 602.
"The weather was very nice so all the teams played better for the most part. We started out well but just weren't able to sustain it on the back 9," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "It's all going to come down to tomorrow's round. We've got a good chance to move up the leaderboard. Everyone is bunched up."
North Florida, the No. 15-ranked team in the nation, continues to hold a dominant lead at 4-under 572 (289-283). No. 20 Liberty remains in second at 8-over 584 (297-287). FGCU shaved half the strokes off its distance to third place Kennesaw State, who sits at 22-over 598 (300-298). Jacksonville nestled into fourth at 23-over 599 (304-295).
Sophomore Cole Castro moved into the top 10 after shooting even-par 72. He is now 4-over 148 (76-72) after two rounds.
True freshman Chase Bigham is tied for 15th at 6-over 150 (76-74), while senior Andrew Potter is one stroke back in a tie for 18th at 7-over 151 (77-74). Junior Doug Smith climbed four spots and is tied for 22nd at 9-over 153 (79-74), while true freshman Tate Heintzelman is solo 36th at 19-over 163 (85-78).
Jordan Batchelor of North Florida leads the individual standings by four strokes at 6-under 138 (70-68), while Jacksonville's Thomas Thurloway (70-72) and Lipscomb's Paul Swindell (73-69) are tied for second at 2-under 142.
The Eagles will begin teeing off in Monday's second round at 8:45 a.m.

FGCU MGOLF: A-SUN Championship Day One Recap
The FGCU men's golf team ended Sunday's opening round of the 2019 ASUN Championships in fifth place. The tournament is being contested at the par-72, 7,032-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
The Eagles shot 20-over-par 308 as a team to land between Jacksonville (16-over 304) and Lipscomb (22-over 310). North Florida, the No. 15-ranked team in the nation, holds a comfortable eight-stroke lead after shooting 1-over 289. No. 20 Liberty sits second at 9-over 297, while Kennesaw State found a top-3 spot at 12-over 300.
"It was tough conditions out there with the setup and gusting winds. We had some bad breaks and never really got into a rhythm throughout the day," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "We had some good post-round practice to prepare for tomorrow. We need to execute the plan better tomorrow if we want to move up the leaderboard."
Sophomore Cole Castro and true freshman Chase Bigham joined a pack of competitors in a tie for 11th at 4-over 76 to pace the Green and Blue. FGCU MGOLF: A-SUN Championship Preview
The FGCU men's golf team treks to familiar grounds for the 2019 ASUN Championships, which will be contested April 21-23 at the par-72, 7,032-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
This marks the 10th-straight year the conference tournament will be held on the Legends Course in Braselton, Georgia. The Eagles have finished fifth at the event each of the last four years.
The championship is scheduled for 54 holes broken up over three 18-hole rounds Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. FGCU enters as the No. 5 seed and will begin teeing off in Sunday's opening round at 8:36 a.m. Tee times for the final two rounds will be determined based on standings. Teams will begin teeing off Monday at 10:15 a.m., with Tuesday's final round slated to begin at 8 a.m.
UNF enters as the top seed, with Liberty seeded No. 2 and Jacksonville in the third position. Kennesaw State is seeded fourth. Complete GolfStat rankings of all participants can be found below.
"We know we can compete against the top teams in the league. From tee to green, we're as good as any of them. It's all about the short game. If we do well in that area, it'll be an exciting event," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "I feel good about the team. They have the right mindset going in, and they definitely have the ability to win this tournament."

Potter leads the team with a scoring average of 72.20 this season. He owns 16 rounds (out of 25) at par or better and the 67 he fired on March 31 at the FAU Spring Championship was the second-lowest of his career. He has finished inside the top 25 in all nine tournaments, with a season-best T-5 coming at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational. The senior will make his fourth-straight appearance at the A-SUN tournament. He has improved his position all three years, beginning with a solo 24th effort in 2016 moving up to last year's T-14 effort. He finished 18th in 2017.
Castro's stroke average of 73.16 is right behind Potter for the team lead. He recently shot 208 at the FAU tournament, which was the lowest three-round total by an Eagle since 2013. His efforts garnered him his second A-SUN Men's Golfer of the Week laurel and first of this season. He tied for fifth at that event and also tied for fourth in Fort Lauderdale. He has landed inside the top 30 in eight of nine events this season. Castro competed at last year's A-SUN Championship and finished in solo 31st.
Heintzelman has competed in seven tournaments and has compiled a stroke average of 74.21. He finished under par to tie for 21st in Boca Raton with a season-low 215. He also recorded a T-5 performance in Texas to open the spring and has finished outside the top 30 in a tournament just twice.
Bigham is averaging a 75.32 and has played in every event this season. He has factored into the team score in every single round he has played during the spring portion of the campaign. He tied for ninth at the Colin Montgomerie tourney and also landed at T-13 in Fort Lauderdale.
Smith returns to the lineup after sitting out the last four events. He has competed in four tournaments in 2018-19, with a season-best T-28 coming back in September at the Sam Hill Intercollegiate. He, like Potter and Castro, has experience playing at Chateau Elan. He tied for 23rd at the 2017 A-SUN Championships and landed T-34 at last year's installment.
"The weather looks good for the championship. We need to stay patient and trust our talent. That will be the deciding factor this week," Booker said. "Being committed to every stroke seems to be the biggest challenge every time we tee it up."

FGCU MGOLF: Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate Day Two Recap
The FGCU men's golf team ascended two spots to land 12th after Tuesday's final round of the 2019 Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate, which was held at the par-71, 6,943-yard Richland Country Club.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but rain during Monday's early session forced the event to be cut to 36 holes.
The Eagles improved nine strokes from rounds one to two and landed at 39-over-par 607 (308-299). That included shooting 2-under as a team on the final combined stretch of four holes. They were nearly able to run down 11th-place Xavier, who finished at 34-over 602 (296-306).
USC Upstate - the tournament's highest-ranked team at No. 122 in the latest GolfStat rankings - won the event at 5-over 573 (292-281), while Southern Miss finished runner-up at 8-over 576 (289-287). Samford was third at 14-over 582 (285-297), host Lipscomb landed fourth at 18-over 586 (297-289), and Austin Peay rounded out the top five at 19-over 587 (295-292).
"We still have some work to do on these greens, but we definitely saw some improvement between yesterday's round and today," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Andrew, especially, had a great round. I was happy with his performance. We were solid again tee to green, but we will need to continue to work on our lag putting between now and the conference tournament."
After struggling in the opening round, senior Andrew Potter rocketed 43 spots up the leaderboard thanks to a blistering 2-under 69 Tuesday. He ended the event tied for 23rd at 5-over 147 (78-69). True freshman Tate Heintzelman repeated his first-round performance and tied for 38th at 10-over 152 (76-76), while sophomore Cole Castro was one stroke behind in a tie for 47th at 11-over 153 (77-76).
True freshman Chase Bigham landed T-57 at 13-over 155 (77-78), while sophomore J.T. Barker finished solo 85th at 24-over 166 (83-83).
Brian Richards of Southern Miss took home medalist honors after shooting 5-under 137 (70-67).

FGCU MGOLF: Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate Day One Recap
The FGCU men's golf team sits 14th after Monday's opening round of the 2019 Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate, which is being contested at the par-71, 6,943-yard Richland Country Club.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes, with 36 slated for today. Due to inclement weather in the morning, tee times were pushed back to noon and competitors were only able to play one round. The event was slashed to 36 holes, with the final round coming tomorrow.
The Eagles carded a 24-over-par 308 and is blanketed by North Dakota State (20-over 304) and Stetson (26-over 310). Samford leads the field at 1-over 285, while Bradley is right behind at 2-over 286. Southern Miss settled into third at 5-over 289, and USC Upstate and Omaha are locked in a tie for fourth at 8-over 292.
"The experience today is exactly why we wanted to play in this tournament. This course is very similar to how the A-SUN tournament will play, so being here is helping us pinpoint what we need to work on before conference," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Tee to green we were right there with everyone else, but the difference for us was in our lag putting. These greens are slopy, and we were really off on the greens today. That's something that we are definitely going to need to improve on over these next few weeks."
True freshman Tate Heintzelmanleads the Green and Blue after shooting 5-over 76 and sitting in a tie for 45th. Sophomore Cole Castro and true freshman Chase Bigham are tied for 53rd at 6-over 77, while senior Andrew Potter is T-66 at 7-over 78. Sophomore J.T. Barker rounds out the Eagles and sits T-82 at 12-over 83.
Bradley's Charles Jahn leads the field at 3-under 68.
FGCU will begin teeing off in the final round at 9:45 a.m. EDT Tuesday.

The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes, with 36 slated for today. Due to inclement weather in the morning, tee times were pushed back to noon and competitors were only able to play one round. The event was slashed to 36 holes, with the final round coming tomorrow.
The Eagles carded a 24-over-par 308 and is blanketed by North Dakota State (20-over 304) and Stetson (26-over 310). Samford leads the field at 1-over 285, while Bradley is right behind at 2-over 286. Southern Miss settled into third at 5-over 289, and USC Upstate and Omaha are locked in a tie for fourth at 8-over 292.
"The experience today is exactly why we wanted to play in this tournament. This course is very similar to how the A-SUN tournament will play, so being here is helping us pinpoint what we need to work on before conference," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Tee to green we were right there with everyone else, but the difference for us was in our lag putting. These greens are slopy, and we were really off on the greens today. That's something that we are definitely going to need to improve on over these next few weeks."
True freshman Tate Heintzelmanleads the Green and Blue after shooting 5-over 76 and sitting in a tie for 45th. Sophomore Cole Castro and true freshman Chase Bigham are tied for 53rd at 6-over 77, while senior Andrew Potter is T-66 at 7-over 78. Sophomore J.T. Barker rounds out the Eagles and sits T-82 at 12-over 83.
Bradley's Charles Jahn leads the field at 3-under 68.
FGCU will begin teeing off in the final round at 9:45 a.m. EDT Tuesday.

FGCU Men's Golf: Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate Preview
The FGCU men's golf team is set to compete at the 2019 Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate April 8-9 in the final tournament before the A-SUN Championships. The event will be contested at the par-71, 6,962-yard Richland Country Club and is being hosted by Lipscomb.
FGCU is the second-highest ranked team in the field, checking in at No. 147 in the most-recent GolfStat rankings. USC Upstate leads the way entering the tournament at No. 122. There are scheduled to be 36 holes contested on Monday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The 18-hole final round will be contended Tuesday.

The Eagles are coming off a T-4 effort at this past week's FAU Spring Championship, which marked the best finish in that event since 2015. The Green and Blue have also posted a runner-up finish at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate after winning the Colin Montgomerie Invitational to kickoff the spring.
"Richland is a hilly course, so the guys are going to get a little bit of an experience of what the ASUN Championship is requiring. This course will be a good prep for Chateau Elan (site of the conference tournament)," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "We've got a good group of five players that are all motivated. FGCU MGolf: FAU Spring Championship Day Three Recap
The FGCU men's golf team posted one of the lowest rounds in recent history in Sunday's final round to tie for fourth at the FAU Spring Championship, which was contested at the par-72, 6,786-yard Osprey Point Golf Club.
The Green and Blue shot 10-under-par 278 as a team Sunday, which was the third-lowest round of the Coach Eric Booker era (since 2015). They finished at a season-best total of 11-under 853 (288-287-278) along with Houston Baptist (295-280-278). UCF, by far the top-ranked team in the field at No. 75 nationally, won the event at 35-under 829 (286-275-268). Host Florida Atlantic finished runner-up at 26-under 838 (286-279-273), while Southern Illinois landed in third at 15-under 849 (290-284-275).
The Eagles – sitting at No. 148 in the most-recent GolfStat rankings – bested two teams ranked ahead of them in No. 135 UConn and No. 136 Miami (OH). Both teams tied for seventh at 4-under 860.
"That was a much better day from us as a team, but there is definitely plenty of room for improvement," Booker said. "Managing our game continues to be a focus point during the shot-making process. I feel we're still making progress and that's important."
Sophomore Cole Castro eagled a par 4 and shot 5-under on the front 9 to propel into a tie for fifth at 8-under 208 (68-71-69). His career-best score was the lowest three-round total by an Eagle since Edward Figueroa shot 204 at the 2013 Cobra-PUMA Invitational.
Senior Andrew Potter made a blistering seven birdies to shoot a team-best 67 and finish T-16 at 4-under 212 (70-75-67). Sunday's round was the second-lowest of his career and his best score since shooting 66 as an individual at this same event his freshman year.
Castro and Potter both tied for second in the entire field in par-5 scoring as each shot 7-under on the longest holes on the course. Potter was also second overall in par-3 scoring at 1-under.
True freshman Tate Heintzelman shot a round in the 60's for the second time this season as he vaulted up the leaderboard into a tie for 21st at 1-under 215 (74-72-69).
Classmate Chase Bigham finished fourth in the field with 38 pars to help tie for 48th at 5-over 221 (76-72-73), while sophomore J.T. Barker landed T-67 at 12-over 228 (79-72-77).
UCF's Bobby Bai completed his wire-to-wire medalist performance and finished at 16-under 200 (67-67-66). Teammate Kyler Tate remained solo second at 12-under 204 (70-67-67).

UCF, by far the top-ranked team in the field at No. 75, went low today to take over first place at 15-under 561 (286-275). Host Florida Atlantic sits second at 11-under 565 (286-279), while overnight leader Bethune-Cookman fell to third at 5-under 571 (282-289).
Southern Illinois (290-284) and UConn (296-278) are tied for fourth at 2-under 574.
"We started strong today and finished poorly, which is a switch in pattern for us," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Tomorrow we're hoping to put together a complete round, starting strong and finishing strong. We're not that far out of it but need a solid performance."

FGCU MGolf: FAU Spring Championship Day One Recap
The FGCU men's golf team finished strong to vault into fourth after Friday's first round of the FAU Spring Championship, which is being held at the par-72, 6,786-yard Osprey Point Golf Club.
After hovering around the 10th position through the opening 11 holes, the Eagles combined to shoot 5-under-par across the remaining seven to land at even-par 288 for the day. Bethune-Cookman leads the way after firing a 6-under 282, while UCF and host Florida Atlantic are tied for second at 2-under 286.
"I always say you can't win the tournament on the first day, but you can certainly lose it," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Andrew and Cole played some solid golf in those winds that were gusting up to 40 mph at times. Tate had a hard-fought round. He played 16 holes really well but had just a few shots that ruined what could have been an even better day. Chase and J.T. struggled, but I feel their games will bounce back."
Sophomore Cole Castro was the only player in the entire field to finish bogey-free, and he poured in four birdies to shoot 4-under 68. He is tied for second with BCU's Jake Lane and sits one stroke back of UCF's Bobby Bai. Senior Andrew Potter finished at 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for sixth. He made par on his first 10 holes and went birdie-eagle to close out his day.
Both Castro and Potter have now shot under par four times this spring, and Castro registered his second sub-70 round of 2019.
True freshmen Tate Heintzelman (2-over 74) and Chase Bigham (4-over 76) are tied for 33rd and 48th, respectively, while sophomore J.T. Barker landed T-66 at 7-over 79.
The Eagles will begin their second round teeing off on the first hole Saturday at 10:50 a.m.

The 54-hole tournament will be played across three days, with 18 holes each being contested Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The opening round will be a staggered start with FGCU teeing off beginning at 10:50 a.m. on the first hole. Round standings will determine tee times for the final two days.
The Eagles have been off for the past three weeks after finishing ninth at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The Green and Blue have also posted a runner-up finish at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate after winning the Colin Montgomerie Invitational to kickoff the spring.
"We had a few weeks to focus on our weaknesses and short game," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "The guys are rested and ready to compete."

He tied for fifth at the Texas tournament and landed in solo seventh in Fort Lauderdale.

FGCU MGOLF: Pinehurst Intercollegiate Day Three Recap
The FGCU men's golf team ended the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in ninth place, which was held at the par-71, 6,937-yard Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course.
The Eagles (300-307-296) shot their lowest round of the event Sunday to end at 51-over-par 903.
Davidson posted a wire-to-wire victory at 7-over 859 (285-287-287), while Radford landed in the runner-up position at 36-over 888 (294-298-296). Old Dominion finished one stroke behind the Highlanders at 37-over 889 (295-303-291), and Dayton was fourth at 41-over 893 (299-301-293). Marshall rounded out the top-5 at 46-over 898 (302-302-294).
True freshman Chase Bigham fired a 1-over 72 to rocket 19 spots up the leaderboard. His low round of the event landed him in a tie for 50th at 18-over 231 (79-80-72). Senior Remec Carlson also posted a tournament-best 76 to end in a tie for 76th at 23-over 236 (80-80-76).

Old Dominion currently resides in the third position at 30-over 598 (295-303), while Eastern Kentucky (295-305) and Dayton (299-301) are deadlocked at 32-over 600.
Sophomore Cole Castro vaulted 18 spots up the leaderboard after a second-round 73. Coupled with his 75 in the first round, the sophomore sits in a tie for 10th at 6-over 148. True freshman Tate Heintzelman is right behind his teammate in a tie for 16th at 7-over 149 (70-79).

FGCU MGOLF: Pinehurst Intercollegiate Day One Recap
The FGCU men's golf team sits sixth after the opening round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, which is being contest at the par-71, 6,937-yard Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course.
The Eagles struggled during Friday's first nine holes (the back 9) but steadied on the front to finish at 16-over-par 300. They were in the 10th position after shooting 10-over on the back 9, but climbed four positions after making the turn.
The Green and Blue trail leader Davidson, who leads the pack at 1-over 285. Radford sits second at 10-over 294, while Eastern Kentucky and Old Dominion are locked into third at 11-over 295. Sandwiched between those two and FGCU is Dayton, who shot 15-over 299.
"We had a tough day overall on the greens and their distance control was off among other things," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "They were able to settle in and have a better second half of the round, hopefully that helps prepare us for tomorrow. Tate had a good round that kept us in it."
True freshman Tate Heintzelman was on fire in his opening round, making six birdies to land in solo second place at 1-under 70. Sophomore Cole Castro was next in line with a 4-over 75 to land T-28, while senior Andrew Potter shot 5-over 76 to find himself in a tie for 38th. True freshman Chase Bigham is tied for 57th at 8-over 79, and senior Remec Carlson– making his first appearance in the lineup for the Eagles – shot 9-over 80 and is tied for 62nd.
Davidson's Clayton Tribus leads the individuals at 4-under 67.
The Eagles will begin their second round teeing off on the first hole Saturday at 8:18 a.m.

FGCU MGOLF: Pinehurst Intercollegiate Preview
The FGCU men's golf team is set to tackle the Pinehurst Intercollegiate March 8-10, which is slated to be contested on the par-71, 6,937-yard Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The tournament will be a 54-hole event stretched across three days and is being hosted by the Pinehurst Tournament Office. Friday's opening round will be a staggered start, and the Eagles will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. on the 10th tee. They will be battling frigid conditions, as the temperatures are slated to remain in the mid-50's for the first two rounds.
FGCU is coming off back-to-back quality performances after winning the Colin Montgomerie Invitational and finishing runner-up at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate. In five total rounds this spring, the Green and Blue have shot a combined score of 1-over-par 1,441 and haven't posted a round higher than 4-over 292.
The recent results have helped FGCU skyrocket up the polls, as the team has ascended 27 spots all the way to No. 136 in the latest Golf Stat rankings.

Potter has posted stellar results so far this spring, tying for fifth at the Texas tournament and landing in solo seventh in Fort Lauderdale. He hasn't shot worse than even-par 72 in any of his five rounds, and he has a cumulative score of 4-under. Castro is coming off a career week where he shot a personal-low 66 in the second round and led the Eagles with a T-4 performance.
Bigham continues to be a mainstay in the lineup, finishing in the top 25 in both events and shooting par or better in three of his five rounds. Heintzelman has been a tad more streaky than his compatriots, which resulted in a T-5 effort at the Colin Montgomerie tourney thanks to an opening 69 that led to at 1-under 143. He put together two solid rounds to open play in the most-recent event but slipped in the final round into a tie for 37th.
Carlson - in his third year with FGCU - will be making his first appearance as part of the lineup. He competed three times over the last two years as an individual (or with FGCU's 'B' team), posting a career-best finish of T-24 at the 2018 Randy Grimes Memorial Shootout.

FGCU MGOLF: Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate Day Two Recap
The FGCU men's golf team fended off fierce challenges from multiple foes to hold onto second place after Tuesday's final round of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, which was held at the par-72, 6,861-yard Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
The Eagles seesawed back and forth from second to fourth all day long, battling alongside UConn and VCU for the runner-up position. The Green and Blue closed strong to come out on top, shooting 1-under as a team across the final six holes. The Huskies and Rams both shot 1-over on their final stretches of holes, with the final golfer on the course for UConn making double bogey on No. 18 to help FGCU finish solo second.
The Eagles ended their tournament at 1-under-par 863 (292-279-292), while UConn (288-286-291) and VCU (285-290-290) both landed at 1-over 865. Boston College settled into fifth at 6-over 870 (294-283-293). No. 23 USF – by far the highest-rated team in the field – won going away at 24-under 840 (276-280-284).
FGCU entered the tournament ranked No. 160 in the most-recent Golf Stat rankings and bested four teams slotted higher. On top of No. 128 UConn and No. 154 VCU, the Eagles defeated No. 102 Davidson (T-6, 875) and No. 151 Florida Atlantic (8, 877).
The Green and Blue led the field in par-3 scoring (-1) and was the only team to shoot under par in that category. They also led with 174 pars and was fifth with 43 birdies.
"Today was an exciting day playing in windy conditions with difficult pin placements. The guys really had to navigate shot selections and scramble to score," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "We had solid performances from Andrew, Cole and Chase. Tate and J.T. struggled but know what they need to work on going forward."
Sophomore Cole Castro shot under par Tuesday to tie for fourth at 4-under 212 (75-66-71). His second-round 66 Monday was the low round of the tournament. He also shot 5-under on par-5's and 1-under on all the par-3's.
Senior Andrew Potter steadied into the finish line with a final round score of even par. He finished solo seventh at 3-under 213 (71-70-72). The senior was 3-under on the par-5's and 1-under on the par-3's.
True freshman Chase Bigham tied for 13th at 1-over 217 (74-71-72), and classmate Tate Heintzelman finished T-37 at 8-over 224 (74-72-78). Heintzelman led the field with 40 pars across the three rounds.
Sophomore J.T. Barker posted two qualifying scores in his first tournament with FGCU and tied for 49th at 12-over 228 (73-78-77).
USF's Albin Bergstrom went wire-to-wire to win medalist honors at 15-under 201 (67-66-68). Ian Peng of VCU finished second at 6-under 210 (69-71-70), while USF's Luke Gifford was third at 5-under 211 (68-70-73).

FGCU MGOLF: Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate Day One Recap
The FGCU men's golf team powered into second place following the first two rounds of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, which is being contested at the par-72, 6,861-yard Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
The Eagles sat sixth after Monday's opening 18 holes, but they shot up the standings after carding the lowest total of the second round at 9-under-par 279. They will enter Tuesday's final round at 5-under 571 (292-279), trailing only a USF squad that is ranked No. 23 in the nation and is by far the highest-rated team in the field. The Bulls sit atop the leaderboard at 20-under 556 (276-280). UConn is third at 2-under 574 (288-286), while VCU (285-290) and host Loyola-Maryland (282-293) are positioned in a tie for fourth.
"It's always a long day on the course when you play 36 holes. The team started out slow before settling into their rounds. I am proud of all of them for how they stayed patient today," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Cole had a great second round, while Andrew, Tate and Chase played solid but left a few opportunities out there. J.T. scrambled and gave us a counting score in the first round. Everybody is pumped about playing tomorrow."
Senior Andrew Potter (71-70) and sophomore Cole Castro (75-66) led the Green and Blue and are tied for seventh overall at 3-under 141. Castro's second-round 66 was the lowest of his career.
True freshman Chase Bigham currently sits at T-18 with a score of 1-over 145 (74-71), while classmate Tate Heintzelman is one stroke back (74-72) in a tie for 23rd.
Sophomore J.T. Barker – making his debut for the Eagles after spending his freshman year at NJCAA Northampton Community College– had a counting score for the first round and is tied for 45th at 7-over 151 (73-78).
USF has the top two individuals after the first rounds of action. Albin Bergstrom leads the field at 11-under 133 (67-66), while Luke Gifford carded a 6-under 138 (68-70).
Tuesday's final round will be a staggered start beginning at 8:09 a.m. The Eagles will begin teeing off on the front 9 in the final groups at 9:30 a.m.

The Eagles sat sixth after Monday's opening 18 holes, but they shot up the standings after carding the lowest total of the second round at 9-under-par 279. They will enter Tuesday's final round at 5-under 571 (292-279), trailing only a USF squad that is ranked No. 23 in the nation and is by far the highest-rated team in the field. The Bulls sit atop the leaderboard at 20-under 556 (276-280). UConn is third at 2-under 574 (288-286), while VCU (285-290) and host Loyola-Maryland (282-293) are positioned in a tie for fourth.
"It's always a long day on the course when you play 36 holes. The team started out slow before settling into their rounds. I am proud of all of them for how they stayed patient today," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "Cole had a great second round, while Andrew, Tate and Chase played solid but left a few opportunities out there. J.T. scrambled and gave us a counting score in the first round. Everybody is pumped about playing tomorrow."
Senior Andrew Potter (71-70) and sophomore Cole Castro (75-66) led the Green and Blue and are tied for seventh overall at 3-under 141. Castro's second-round 66 was the lowest of his career.
True freshman Chase Bigham currently sits at T-18 with a score of 1-over 145 (74-71), while classmate Tate Heintzelman is one stroke back (74-72) in a tie for 23rd.
Sophomore J.T. Barker – making his debut for the Eagles after spending his freshman year at NJCAA Northampton Community College– had a counting score for the first round and is tied for 45th at 7-over 151 (73-78).
USF has the top two individuals after the first rounds of action. Albin Bergstrom leads the field at 11-under 133 (67-66), while Luke Gifford carded a 6-under 138 (68-70).
Tuesday's final round will be a staggered start beginning at 8:09 a.m. The Eagles will begin teeing off on the front 9 in the final groups at 9:30 a.m.

FGCU MGOLF: Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate Preview
Coming off the heels of the first tournament championship of the year, the FGCU men's golf team heads to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to compete in the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate March 4-5. The tournament, hosted by Loyola Maryland, will be contested on the par-72, 6,861-yard North Course at Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
There are scheduled to be 36 holes contested on Monday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The 18-hole final round will be played Tuesday.
Last week, the Eagles opened their spring campaign by winning the Colin Montgomerie Invitational. The triumph helped the team jump three spots to No. 160 in the latest GolfStat Division I team rankings. FGCU wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule with a fourth-place finish at its home event, the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic.
"We're obviously coming off a pretty solid week, and we're looking forward to the next two weeks for spring break," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "We think we have a solid five guys in our lineup that can all get hot on any given day. We're excited to see how the team performs over the next two weeks."

FGCU Men's Golf: Colin Montgomerie Invitational Day Two Recap
The FGCU men's golf team claimed the tournament championship at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, which was held at the par-72, 7,018-yard Cypresswood Golf Club.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather, and the Eagles closed out their second round Tuesday with a 1-over-par 289 to land at 2-over 578. They finished two strokes clear of Houston (292-288=580) and North Dakota State (291-298=580), while Prairie View A&M finished fourth at 5-over 581 (294-287) and California Baptist rounded out the top 5 at 6-over 582 (295-287).
"I'm proud of the team and how they handled themselves under pressure in those final nine holes," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "They knew what needed to be done and they delivered."
FGCU led wire-to-wire for the second tournament title in the Coach Booker era (since 2015). The Green and Blue shot even on the par-4's in the second round to lead the field. That mark was helped greatly by senior Andrew Potter. Potter began his second round Monday afternoon with an eagle on the par-4 fifth hole, and he finished as the only player in the field to make an eagle on a par-4.
Potter shot 1-under 71 in the second round to finish in a tie for fifth at 1-under 143 (72-71). True freshman Tate Heintzelman tied with Potter with rounds of 69 and 74.
True freshman Chase Bigham cracked the top 10 with a ninth-place finish at even par 144 (71-13). Sophomore Cole Castro shot under par in the second round to vault 16 positions to T-24 at 4-over 148 (77-71). Junior Doug Smith finished his tournament in a tie for 72nd at 14-over 158 (79-79).
Stetson's Baylor Payne won the individual title at 3-under 141 (67-74), while Prairie View A&M's Laurence Crea (69-73) and Van Holmgren of North Dakota State (72-70) tied for second at 2-under 142.
The tournament was originally slated for 54 holes but was cut short due to weather. The teams reached the back nine of their respective second rounds Monday before play was halted, and they were only able to complete 36 holes.

We had a one-hour lightning delay that included some misty rain," FGCU coach Eric Booker said. "With that being said, the guys are playing well for the most part and trusting their skills. Andrew (Potter), Chase (Bigham) and Tate (Heintzelman) are right there in contention. Cole (Castro) and Doug (Smith) need to give them some help, but our spirits are high. We are looking forward to tomorrow as we try to bring back a win."

Senior Andrew Potter leads the team averaging 72.13 in 12 rounds, including two scores below 70 and eight below or equal to par. Close behind him is sophomore Cole Castro who has a 73.83 average in 12 rounds, and four scores below or equal to par.
"The team has put in some hard work this spring and we are looking forward to testing out their skills in Houston, Texas this coming week," FGCU coach Eric Booker said.

This will be the first time the Eagles have participated in the two-day event. The last time FGCU ventured to the state of Texas was for the 2015 NCAA Championship Lubbock Regional. During the fall season, the Eagles had a pair of top-5 finishes, including a fifth-place effort in a 14-team field at the Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
