SCF VB Falls at Two-Day SF Classic

The SCF volleyball team (0-3) fell in their season opener on day one of the Santa Fe/Campus USA Classic to host Santa Fe (2-0) by a score of 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 21-25, 16-25). On day two, the Manatees were shutout 3-0 (10-25, 19-25, 15-25) by Daytona State (3-0) before falling in a heart-breaking 3-2 (18-25, 25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 14-16) loss to Palm Beach State (2-1) With the loss, the Manatees are now 1-4 against the Saints, 2-12 against the Falcons and 7-7 against the Panthers.

Offensively, sophomore Lakeesha Esseboom led the tournaments with 24 kills freshmen Jazmin Spencer and Leilani Wilcox-Nanai followed with 16 each and freshman Gracee Carpino led the way with 75 assists. Carpino, Spencer and sophomore Hannah Strickland had three aces each. Esseboom also added eight blocks on the defensive front.

Sophomore Daviya Bernard finished the tournament with 12 kills and six blocks.

Defensively, sophomore Sydney Jaco led the team with 74 digs. In fact, she surpassed her older sister, Brittany for the most career digs and has reached the milestone of 800 and 850 career digs and now has 858 in her career so far.

Aside from Spencer, Wilcox and Carpino making their debuts, freshmen Bailey Sikkema, Lisa Jaunet and Brooke Henry also made their debuts.

Scores and Upcoming Matches From the Suncoast:
Hillsborough Community College (HCC) (3-0) opened their season at home with the two-day HCC Tournament where they defeated Lake Sumter 3-0 on day one before winning two tri-matches against Indian River State (IRS) and Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) by scores of 3-1 on day two. The Hawks will be competing in a five-match three-day tournament in Pensacola where they will face host Pensacola State College (Aug. 29), Gadsden State Community College (Aug. 30), Snead State Community College (Aug. 30), Lee College (Aug. 31) and Coastal Alabama (Aug. 31).

Florida Southwestern (FSW) (2-2) opened their inaugural season at the CCF Volleyball Invitational with shutout wins over Pasco-Hernando State and Florida Gateway on day one before losing two straight on day two against Miami Dade (3-1) and host CCF. The Buccaneers will travel to Winter Haven for the Polk State Invitational August 30 against Daytona State and host Polk State.

St. Petersburg College (SPC) will play their season opener at home as they welcome CCF Tuesday, August 27.
