5th Herd Open Southern Conference Play vs HCC

Bradenton, Fla - The SCF basketball (10-6) will open Southern Conference play at Hal Chasey Gymnasium for the start of 2023. The Manatees will welcome Hillsborough (13-3) Wednesday night, January 11 at 7 pm.

The Manatees are 16-19 against the Hawks overall (2012-present).

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of closing 2022 with a loss to #1 Chipola (81-74) before opening 2023 with a win over South Georgia Tech (68-59) at the FSW Classic in Fort Myers. They were originally supposed to face Eastern Georgia State, but that game was ultimately cancelled.

Sky with No Limits:
For sophomore Skylar Wicks, he remains as one of the heavy offensive players for the herd. Wicks is averaging 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He had 16 points, four rebounds, six assists and a block against #1 Chipola before being held to six points, five rebounds and three steals against South Georgia Tech.

Classmate Cobey Harraway has also been playing well as of late. Harraway is averaging 14.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. He had 12 points against Chipola and eight points against South Georgia Tech.


Hometown Hammer:
Sophomore Ronnail Tape returned to his home roots of Fort Myers against South Georgia Tech in which he had 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Currently Tape is averaging 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game since being placed in the starting lineup.

Pass the Peas:
Sophomore Isaiah 'Ziggy' Josue and freshman Malyk Rebetez remains as the key passers for the Manatees. Josue is averaging 8.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, while Rebetez is averaging 2.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Boarding the Boards:
Freshman Josh Ijeh has been the quintessential player for rebounding. Ijeh is averaging 5.4 points, eight rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. In the game against Chipola, the Englishman had a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 blocks to go along with eight points before being held scoreless with seven rebounds against South Georgia Tech. His 11 blocks were a career-high at SCF.

Classmate Elijah 'Slim' Terry has also been a benefactor on the rebounding game after securing his first collegiate double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds against South Georgia Tech. Terry is averaging 6.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

A Wild Card Life:
Sophomore Ametri Moss, redshirt freshman Zach Smith and freshman Kasheem Grady remain as the wild cards for the Manatees.

Moss is currently averaging 5.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He had five points, three rebounds and three assists in his last outing.

Smith came at a crucial moment in his last outing as he finished with seven points, two rebounds and one assist. He is currently averaging 3.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Grady is currently averaging 6.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He had six points in his last game.

Scouting HCC:
The Hawks are currently in first place in the Southern Conference, but are entering the matchup on a two-game losing skid after falling to Santa Fe (86-65) and #6 Tallahassee CC (95-71). They were originally supposed to play Eastern Georgia State, but that game was cancelled.

Prior to play SCF, the Hawks will open their portion of conference play against Miami Dade on Saturday, January 7 at 4 pm.

Sophomore Jorden Rogers and Dominic Gooden are both averaging 13.8 points per game. Rogers also averages 5.4 rebounds per game, while Gooden averages 3.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Sophomore Jasper Floyd is averaging 12 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game since transferring from Northwest Florida State.

Classmates Delon Gooden Jr (11.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 3.3 apg) and Nicolas Strachen (10.1 ppg and 6.7 rpg) also play key roles in the Hawks rotation.
