FGCU S&D: Georgia Tech Invite Preview

The FGCU swimming and diving team (3-5) heads to the Peach State this weekend to take part in the competitive Georgia Tech Invite held Thursday through Saturday at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

"This invitational is our first opportunity to give the team some much-needed rest and see how all the work we've been doing will pay off," said head coach Dave Rollins. "We look great in the water and on the boards and we have no doubt there will be some incredible performances. Coming into this weekend we can see just how well we've been doing with early season results from Petra (Halmai) and Rebecca (Moynihan) at their respective National Championships. Now it's time for the whole team to experience it. It's going to be a fun, fast and exciting weekend."

FGCU at the Georgia Tech Invite:
This will be the first appearance at the Georgia Tech Invite for the Eagles since the 2016 season in which the squad was ranked #31 as they placed 6th out of 11 teams with 514 points. In 2015, former FGCU standout Lani Cabrera registered three program records as FGCU finished third among 18 teams – the third-best finish in program history. The Green and Blue placed 2nd in consecutive trips in 2011 and 2012.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles are coming off of a split in a tri-meet against FAU and Princeton in Boca Raton, Florida. FGCU defeated the hosts 185-115 but would fall to Princeton 170-129, as the Eagles racked up a total of six first-place finishes.

Seniors Christina Kaas Elmgreen (200 free, 2:02.27) and Gracie Redding (50 free, 23.59), sophomores Rebecca Moynihan (100 free, 51.75), Petra Halmai (200 breast, 2:20.32) and Megan Wakefield (3M, 293.65) garnered the individual titles.

Meanwhile, the 200 free relay team of Moynihan, freshman Wiktoria Czarnecka, Redding and senior Hannah Burdge rounded out the list.
