Raining 3s @ Duke Preview

The FGCU women's team (9-3) travel to the Carolina Triangle to face Duke (7-4) at the Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina on Sunday, December 30 at 2 P.M.  This will be the last road game to close up 2018 before the new year and conference and the first matchup between both teams. For the 2019-20 season, they will play each other again, but it will take place in the Alico Arena.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles are coming off of a split of the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic. They would defeat Coppin State (93-61) before falling to UAB (62-60) to close out their final two home games of 2018.

It's junior Nasrin Ulel, redshirt junior Keri Jewett-Giles, and redshirt sophomore Chandler Ryan that lead the Eagles offensively.

Ulel is 15.8 points and three rebounds per game. Ulel had 15 points and three rebounds against Coppin State and 24 points against UAB while being named on the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic All-Tournament Team.

Jewett-Giles is averaging 13.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. In the tournament, the Fort Myers product was held to a combined 11 points (6 vs Coppin State, 5 vs UAB).

Ryan has become the most versatile to shooting 3s as she is averaging 10.8 points per game. Ryan scored 21 points and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the 3-point line against Coppin State before falling to six points against UAB.

Redshirt seniors Lisa Zderadicka and Destiny Washington, redshirt junior Davion Wingate and junior Tytionia Adderly have also be key elements on the team.

Zderadicka is averaging 9.7 points and 3.1 assists per game. The Austrian had nine points and five assists assists against Coppin State and 15 points and two assists against UAB. Zderadicka joined Ulel on the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic All-Tournament Team.

Although struggling a bit, Washington is averaging 5.7 points, five rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Washington-Mabon was held scoreless in both games, but had a combined six rebounds.

Wingate is averaging 8.1 points per game. In the game against Coppin State, the Atlanta native had 21 points while against UAB, she had nine.

Adderly is averaging 5.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Adderly had two points in both games with eight rebounds against Coppin State and 14 against UAB.

Raining 5,000:
In the game against Coppin State, the Eagles scored their 5,000th 3-pointer in program history compliments of redshirt sophomore Kerstie Phills.

Scouting Duke:
The Blue Devils are coming off of a loss to Oregon State on the road (71-57) and a win against Eastern Carolina at home (83-66).

Duke is led offensively by redshirt junior Haley Gorecki and junior Leaonna Odom.

Gorceki is averaging 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Against Oregon State, she had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds and a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds against Eastern Carolina.

Redshirt freshman Mikayla Boykin is also coming into play as she averages 10 points per game, despite only playing three games this season. Boykin had 10 points and six rebounds against Oregon State ad nine points and four rebounds against ECU.

The Blue Devils did lose one player for the rest of the season: freshman Rayah Craig. Craig, who was averaging 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in nine games, will not enroll for the spring 2019 semester due to the violation of university policy, so she is deemed ineligible.

Duke Versus the Atlantic Sun Conference:
Duke boasts a 10-0 record against A-SUN Conference opponents – East Tenn. St. (5-0), Stetson (3-0), and USC Upstate (2-0). The Blue Devils are looking to extend this winning streak to 11 games with a win in Sunday’s date with the Eagles.

This will be Coach Joanne P. McCallie's third game against an A-SUN team, holding a 2-0 record against former A-SUN member USC Upstate.
