Tampa, Fla - The SCF basketball team (11-8, 0-1 Southern) fought hard, but evidentially they would fall to Hillsborough (8-8, 2-1 Suncoast) in their conference opener in Tampa by a score of 97-94. With the loss, the Manatees are now 15-18 against the Hawks.
The first half put the Manatees off to a slow start as they were down 6-0 in the first three minutes until freshman Ametri Moss was able to put the first points up for the Manatees. Soon the Manatees started to creep up and were able to cut the deficit down to single digits, thanks to strong rebounding and put backs by freshman Pierre-Gabriel Gouffran and baskets by sophomore James 'Pop' Weathers. Eventually, the Manatees would the tie the first half at 45 apiece.
The second half saw the Manatees struggle briefly, but they continued to fight to the end and managed to take a one-point lead on a few moments, but the Hawks continued to push back, even with the Manatees fighting opportunity. With less than six seconds left in the game, the Manatees were down 97-94. Freshman Jacari would try to tie the game with a 3-pointer, but it would be to no avail as the Hawks would take the win at home.
