Bradenton, Fla - With the holidays nearing the end, along with the new year approaching closer, the SCF basketball team (5-4) will look to focus on their next game as they will travel to St. Petersburg to take on St. Pete college (2-7) at the St. Pete Gibbs Campus Gymnasium Wednesday night, November 30 at 7 pm.
Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of hosting the second annual Florida vs Georgia Thanksgiving Classic, where they faced and defeated Georgia Highlands (91-77) and Gordon State College (83-74). They also welcomed Polk State and Indian River State to participate in the classic as two of the remaining teams from Florida before becoming co-champions of the classic with Indian River State for the second straight season. Additionally, the Manatees enter their next game on a five-game winning streak.
Sky High Zone:
Since transferring from Missouri State University, sophomore Skylar Wicks has been leading the team offensively. Wicks is currently averaging 20.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game. At the Thanksgiving Classic, he had 51 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and nine steals in both games, which including a career-high 36 points and seven steals against Georgia Highlands.
At the end of the classic, Wicks was named on the All-Thanksgiving Classic First Team and the Thanksgiving Classic MVP.
Harraway Hot Hand:
Sophomore Cobey Harraway has also been leading the team well with Wicks. Harraway currently is averaging 15.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, two assists and 1.4 steals per game. The Seattle native averaged 14 points, five rebounds and three assists per game.
Harraway was named on the All-Thanksgiving Classic Second Team.
Hammer Time:
Sophomore Ronnail Tape is averaging 6.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Tape averaged nine points and 4.5 rebounds at the classic, which included a career-high 16 points and eight rebounds against Gordon State.
Passing in the West:
Since transferring from Porterville College in California, sophomore Isaiah 'Ziggy' Josue has made an impact in passing. Josue is averaging 8.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. At the classic, the Miami native averaged 11.5 points, six rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Along with Josue's passing, freshman Malyk Rebetez has also been a key passer in the lineup. Rebetez is averaging 3.9 assists per game to go along with 3.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Kashing In the Bank:
Freshman Kasheem Grady continues to play a strong role of the bench for the Manatees. Grady is averaging 5.8 points and 2.3 rebounds. At the classic, the Georgia native averaged eight points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Wildcard Factor:
Sophomore Ametri Moss, redshirt freshman Zach Smith and freshmen Elijah Terry, Josh Ijeh and Dresean Knight are the wild cards of the team.
Moss returned to the rotation after missing the first six games of the season due to a hand injury. He is averaging two points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Smith is averaging 4.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game despite scoring only one point in the classic.
Terry, who has also played a key role in the bench rotation, is averaging 7.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the Thanksgiving Classic.
Ijeh has been the leading rebounder for the Manatees in the lineup. The native of Milton Keynes, England is averaging 5.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
Knight, who plays as backup for Ijeh, is averaging 2.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
Scouting St. Pete:
The Titans are entering the contest with the Manatees on a four-game losing skid and are coming off of a 86-71 loss to former Suncoast rival Hillsborough.
Freshman Joshua Meo leads the team averaging 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Meo had 24 points and three rebounds against HCC.
Freshman Jaden Ezomo played in the last three games where he is averaging 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and two blocks per game.
Overall, the Manatees are 16-19 against the Titans, which includes the 102-98 overtime win at Hal Chasey earlier in the season.
