SCF Softball Falls in Doubleheader

The SCF softball team (18-12) fell in a doubleheader to #10 Seminole State (26-1, 4-1 Southern) by score of 2-0 and 6-4. With the losses, the Manatees are now 7-15 against the Raiders.

Game One:
For game one, head coach Mandy Schuerman sent sophomore Madi LoCastro to the mound while Seminole head coach Courtney Miller sent Marissa Adame to counter.

The Raiders would get their two runs in the bottom of the first after an RBI single by freshman Liz Cutlip and classmate Logan Keith scoring on a field error. The Manatees were able to produce any run support.

LoCastro would be hit with the loss after giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with one strikeout in six innings. LoCastro is now 4-3 on the year.

Adame would end up with her 10th win of the season after a shutout with one walk and six strikeouts.

Freshmen Maddie Koczersut, Emily Hughes and Kristin Kopp had the Manatees lone three hits.

Game Two:
For game two, Schuerman sent freshman Ally Hulme to the mound while Miller sent sophomore Samantha Guider to counter.

The Manatees would get on the board first at the top of the first after freshman Lauren Hutcherson popped a fly ball to first to reach on a fielding error before Koczersut scored, but the Raiders would answer back in the bottom of the second after RBI singles by sophomores Kelly Dwyer and Amy Lee and freshman Haley Pippin. This signaled the end for Hulme as sophomore Ashlee Zientek would come in to finish the inning.

The Raiders would add two more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1 after two run blast by Dwyer. It was her first home run of the season.

At the top of the sixth, the Manatees brought in their second run after LoCastro grounded out to bring in freshman Lauren Lightbody, but the Raiders would add one of their own after an RBI double by sophomore Allie Carroll to make it 6-2 Seminole State.

The Manatees would take one final crack at the top of the seventh. After one out singles by sophomore Makayla Benavidez, Koczersut and Hughes to load the bases, Lightbody would send a double to right to bring in Benavidez and Koczersut, but it was they could produce in the loss.

Hulme would be dubbed with her fourth loss after giving up three run on six hits with one walk in one innings. Hulme is now 6-4 on the year.

Zientek gave up three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in five innings of relief.

Guider would get her sixth win of the season after throwing a complete game, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Guider is now 6-1 on the year.

Benavidez would have the Manatees only multi-hit game as she went 2-for-3 with a run.

Lightbody finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. She was the only Manatee with a multi-RBI game.

Koczersut, Hughes, Hutcherson, Kopp and freshman Lilly Salazar had the teams remaining five hits.

The Manatees return to the SCF Softball Complex as they welcome Lincoln Land CC (2-0) Wednesday night, March 11 at 4 and 6 pm.
