SCF Looks Forward to Rematch with Lake Sumter

Bradenton, Fla - The SCF softball team (11-7) start the second part of their six-game homestead at the SCF Softball Complex. The Manatees will welcome Lake Sumter State College (14-12) for a doubleheader Thursday night, March 3 at 4 and 6 pm.

Last Time Out:

The Manatees are coming off of a sweep in the first part of their six-game homestead by defeating visiting Oakland Community College by scores of 3-2 and 14-3 (5). In the second game, they produce a 10-run third inning, which was the most runs produce in an inning since 2017.

Air Force Strong:

Sophomore Mya Achenbach continues her hitting stretch at the plate. Achenbach, who remains a member of the US Air Force, is currently batting .340 with 18 hits, a home run, eight RBI and six stolen bases. Achenbach has been on six-game hitting streak since the game against South Georgia State.

Power Game:

Freshmen Chantel Schurr, Gabi Nicholson and Presley O'Kimosh continue their hitting game as well on the power side.

Although she was out for the series against Oakland due to a concussion, Schurr is currently batting .341 with 14 hits, three home runs and 13 RBI.

Nicholson is batting .321 with 17 hits, 12 RBI and five stolen bases. She went 1-for-4 against Oakland CC with an RBI.

Although she has struggled a bit, O'Kimosh is still batting .271 with 13 hits, a home run and nine RBI. She went 1-for-5 with an RBI against Oakland.

Pitch Game:

Sophomore Samantha Hampton has been one of the key players in the circle for the Manatees. The three-year player is currently 5-2 with a 2.98 ERA, 10 walks and 32 strikeouts. In her last starting appearance, Hampton threw a complete game against Oakland with eight strikeouts in winning fashion.

Classmate Remi Hebert has been back to fighting on the mound as well as at the plate. Hebert is currently 3-2 with a 4.99 ERA, nine walks and four strikeouts while batting .192 with five hits and two RBI. Against Oakland CC, the native of New Orleans pitched four innings in her last start with one strikeout while batting 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wildcard Softball:

The wildcard players for the Manatees have been bouncing around between players. Sophomores Tori Copeland, Alli Bloski and Gracie Mullett and freshmen Sam Carlin and Mikayla Disantis are the current wildcard players to make an impact for SCF.

Copeland is currently batting .366 with 15 hits, one home run, three RBI and six stolen bases. She went 2-for-6 with two RBI and two stolen bases.

While she is currently batting .147 with five RBI, Bloski has been playing well in key at-bats. Against Oakland CC, she played in the second game and went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Mullett is the hybrid at the plate and on the mound. At the plate, the Lakewood Ranch product is batting .286 with 14 hits and seven RBI, while going 3-4 at the plate with a 3.50 ERA, one save, 11 walks and 22 strikeouts. Against Oakland CC, she was 1-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base.

Carlin was the hero in game one against Oakland as she hit the game-winning RBI single. She ended up finishing the series 3-for-8 with two RBI, while also throwing a scoreless inning of relief in game two with three strikeouts. Currently, she is batting .231 with six hits and two RBI.

Disantis was a big wild card factor in game two against Oakland CC as she went 1-for-1 with two walks and three runs. She is currently batting .200 at the plate.

Schuerman's Winning Style:

Head coach Mandy Schuerman has been on a better winning path this season as she currently has 225 wins as head coach for the Manatees, which is third most in program history. She needs 25 to reach 250 career wins, but to move up second all-time she needs 16 to surpass Meredith Headings (240, 2007-14) for that milestone.

Scouting Lake Sumter:

The Lakehawks, who are currently on a three-game losing streak, are coming off of being swept by St. Pete by scores of 12-3 (5) and 3-1. Their current record they produced is one of their best this season.

Redshirt sophomore Jeritza Montero is currently leading the Lakehawks' offense batting .329 with 25 hits and 17 RBI, while freshman Raquel Camuglia is batting .342 with 26 hits, two home runs and 12 RBI.

On the mound, freshman Jordyn Anderson is 5-2 with a 4.46 ERA, 15 walks and 14 strikeouts.

Series History (2012-present):

Both teams split a series earlier with the Manatees taking game one 10-4 and the Lakehawks taking game two 11-4. Currently, the Manatees lead the series 28-3.
