FGCU MBB vs Lipcomb Preview

Off to a good start, the FGCU men's basketball continues conference play as they go on the road to Nashville to play Lipscomb.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles (12-8, 3-0 A-SUN) recently played NJIT at home where they were victorious, beating the Highlanders 68-54. It was redshirt senior Brandon Goodwin and redshirt junior Zach Johnson that led the way offensively. Goodwin had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds while Johnson had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Goodwin is averaging 17.2 points and 4.9 assists per game. Johnson is averaging 14 points and 3.1 assists per game. In conference play, Johnson is averaging 18.3 points per game while Goodwin is averaging 15.3 points per game.

Rebound Improvement:

Since the start of conference, the Eagles have out-rebounded their opponents and are averaging 43.3 rebounds from the three conference games (42 vs Stetson, 47 vs Upstate, 41 vs NJIT).

Conference Standings:

The Eagles started conference in second place, but have jumped to first place in the A-SUN Conference standings.

Scouting Lipscomb:

The Bison (11-7, 1-2 A-SUN) won their opening conference game against Kennesaw winning 86-71 at Kennesaw, but after traveling to Jacksonville, Lipscomb would lose to UNF (96-102) and JU (69-87), thus falling from first place to fifth place in the conference standings.

Junior Garrison Mathews leads the way offensively. Mathews is averaging 23.3 points per game overall, which not only leads the A-SUN, but is ranked eighth in the nation. In conference, Mathews is averaging 32.7 points per game in the A-SUN. In conference, Mathews scored 43 against Kennesaw, 32 against UNF and 23 against JU.

Series History:

Overall between the two teams, the Eagles are 8-11 overall against Lipscomb. :Last series, FGCU split the series winning at Lipscomb (84-80) and losing at home (60-65).

The game is on Thursday, February 18 at 7:30 pm eastern/6:30 pm central and will air on ESPN 3.
