FGCU MBB vs Lipscomb Recap

In a tough battle of conference play, the FGCU men's basketball (13-8, 4-0 A-SUN) continued their hot streak as they won against Lipscomb (11-8, 1-3 A-SUN) by a score of 88-83.

After being down 40-48 in the first half and being behind by as high as 18 points, the Eagles miraculously came back and found the sparks that they needed to beat the Bison from not just their starters, but from their bench too.

For the starters, redshirt senior Brandon Goodwin that led the way offensively for the Eagles. Goodwin finished with 22 points (8-for-15 FG, 6-for-9 FT), six rebounds, nine assists and three steals. With his 22 points, Goodwin is now five points away from being the 10th player in program history to reach 1,000 points

Redshirt junior Zach Johnson finished with 14 points (5-for-8 FG, 2-for-5 3FG, 2-for-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist and three steals.

Redshirt junior Ricky Doyle finished with four points, three rebounds and one block.

Redshirt junior Michael Gilmore finished with 10 points (3-for-5 FG, 3-for-4 3FG, 1-for-2 FT), six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

Redshirt junior Dinero Mercurius had 12 points (3-for-4 FG, 2-for-3 3FG, 4-for-4 FT) and one assist.

Off the bench, redshirt Antravious Simmons provided the sparks that were needed. Simmons finished with 11 points (5-for-9 FG, 1-for-3 FT) and seven rebounds.

Senior Christian Terrell had eight points, two rebounds, three assists and one block.

Sophomore Christian Carlyle had five points and four rebounds.

Redshirt sophomore Brady Ernst had two points and one assist.

Freshman Brian Thomas also played in the game.

Freshman Darnell Rogers and sophomore RaySean Scott Jr did not travel with the team due to a concussion.

For the Bison, junior Rob Marberry, sophomore Kenny Cooper and junior Garrison Mathews had 15 points each. Marberry added three rebounds and five assists, Cooper added four rebounds, three assists and five steals and Mathews added seven rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Michael Buckland had eight points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Junior Eli Pepper had five points, five rebounds and one steal.

Off the Lipscomb bench, junior Matt Rose also had 15 points, one rebound and two assists.

Freshman Greg Jones had four points, two rebounds and one assist.

Sophomore Andrew Fleming had three points and one rebound.

Senior George Brammeier had three points and one rebound.

Senior Aaron Korn contributed with two rebounds.

Up next, the Eagles continue conference play on the road as they travel down south to play Kennesaw on Saturday, January 20 at 4:30 PM before returning to the states to play UNF on Wednesday, January 24 at 7 PM to wrap up their three-game road trip. The games against Kennesaw and UNF will also air on ESPN livestream.
