The No. 12 FGCU men's soccer team is set to host No. 13 UCF Wednesday night at 7 p.m. It will be FGCU's home third match of the season.
The Green and Blue:
FGCU is coming of a California road trip where it dropped two matches against UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton. UC Riverside continues to receive votes while then-ranked No. 23 Cal State Fullerton who is now No. 14.
Senior Ryan Medilah leads the Eagles in goals (three), and points (seven). Senior Ivan Rosales has netted a pair of scores while classmate Shak Adams leads the team in assists (two). In net, redshirt junior keeper Gustavo Vasconcelos (3-2-1) has started all six contests, securing 27 saves (1.45 GAA), and one clean sheet.
Scouting the Knights:
UCF comes into the Nest with an overall record of 3-1-1, most recently defeating Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), 2-0, last Friday night. Cal Jennings fuels the UCF attack so far netting four goals. Meanwhile, Louis Perez leads the squad with two assists. Keeper Yannik Oettl has logged every start between the posts, gathering 11 saves (1.29 GAA) while conceding seven goals.
Series History:
FGCU leads the all-time series 4-2-1. This will be the first matchup in which both clubs are nationally ranked when squaring off against each other.
In the Polls:
In TopDrawerSoccer.com's week four poll, the Eagles came in at No. 12 (No. 11 is the highest the program has ever been ranked back in October 2016). UCF is currently ranked No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
The United Soccer Coaches has FGCU slotted No. 4 in the Atlantic Region poll while UCF is No. 4 in the East Region poll.
