3rd Herd Readies for Another Top 25 Challenge

Bradenton, Fla - As they continue their journey in a new conference, the SCF men’s basketball team (4-2, 1-0 Southern) will be facing another challenge on their schedule as they travel to Fort Pierce to take on #16 Indian River State (5-0, 1-0 Southern) Wednesday night, February 10 at 5:30 at the Massey Gymnasium.

Spectators are permitted to attend the game.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of a big 83-81 win over Miami Dade College in their first ever Southern Conference game.

The Manatees have five players scoring in double figures. Leading the way for the Manatees offensively is freshman James “Pop” Weathers. Weathers is averaging 20.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists and three steals per game. In the opening conference game, Weathers almost had his second collegiate double-double as he finished with 13 points, nine assists, four rebounds and four steals.

Following behind Weathers is classmate DK Kelly, who is averaging 12.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, despite being held to seven points, two rebounds and four assists.

Sophomore Marshall Kearing is currently averaging 11.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and five blocks per game. Kearing had one of his best scoring game as he finished with a 24 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks against Miami Dade.

Freshmen Kwo Agwa and Javon Bell are both averaging 10.5 points per game. Agwa is also averaging a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game, while Bell averages 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Against Miami Dade, Agwa was the hero of the game as he finished with his first collegiate double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds, which included the game-winning 3-point shot that got the Manatees the win over Miami Dade, while Bell had six points, two rebounds and three blocks.

Scouting Indian River State:
The Pioneers recently moved up to #16 in the NJCAA Top 25 National Polls after coming off opening Southern Conference play with 74-67 win over Palm Beach State this past Saturday.

Sophomore Tanahj Pettway leads the way averaging 14.4 points and four rebounds per game. Pettway had 13 points and four rebounds against Palm Beach State.

Classmate Linton Brown follows behind Pettway averaging 13.4 points and three rebounds per game.

As far as rebounding for the Pioneers, sophomore Antrell Charlton leads the way averaging 6.6 rebounds per game while also averaging 9.6 points per game. Charlton had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds against Palm Beach State.

Series History:
The Manatees are currently 4-13 against the Pioneers. Last season, both teams split a win in the season series with the Pioneers taking the first game 111-98 (11/8/19) before the Manatees took the second game by a score of 84-80 (11/26/19).
