Following that game, the Manatees return home to take on Tallahassee CC (6-6) for a doubleheader at Wynn Field Saturday, February 20 at 2 and 5 pm.
Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of participating in the Capital City Classic in Palatka, where they faced Gulf Coast State twice winning the first game 10-2 and the second 7-6. Originally, they we’re supposed to face St. John’s River and Pensacola State, but they were cancelled. Additionally, the classic was pushed due to heavy rain in the area.
A 1-2 Sarasota Punch:
The duo of sophomore Owen Ayers and freshman Harrison Long have recently been a threat in the lineup (Ayers leading off, Long batting second). The duo were both products from Sarasota High School and reunited after Long joined this season. Ayers and Long both lead the team with three home runs each with Ayers batting .321 with a team-leading 18 hits and nine RBI, while Long batted .361 with 13 hits and and team-leading 13 RBI.
In the Capital City Classic, Ayers was 4-for-8 with two home runs and three RBI. His two home runs were in the first and it was in fact, it was his first multi home-run game in his career. Long was 4-for-8 with a home run.
Freshman Kevin Karstetter is batting .310 with a home run and 10 RBI, while sophomore Richard Rodriguez batted .220 with a home run and 11 RBI.
On the mound, the relief pitchers have been playing the main factor, which includes sophomores Matt Gelorme, Jakob Mattos, Clay Callan and David Barrett and freshman Eli Thurmond and Dylan Vega. Thurmond and Vega both have two wins each, while Gelorme has the lowest ERA (1.54).
Scouting PHSC:
The Bobcats are coming off a doubleheader win over Hillsborough winning by scores of 9-8 and 4-3.
Four freshman players each have three home runs and 10+ RBI, Matt Coker, Kyle Murphy, Jack Burke and Jackson Ross. Coker leads the team with a .404 batting, 23 hits and seven stolen bases and Murphy leads the team with 14 RBI and 17 hits. Burke and Ross each have 17 hits of their own.
Freshman Cameron Kenny is 2-0 with a 5.84 ERA and 14 strikeouts.
Scouting Tallahassee:
The Eagles are coming off of competing a three-game series this past weekend against Shelton State. They won the first game 4-3 before losing games two and three by scores of 5-1 and 5-4.
Freshman Bryson Kirksey leads the team with 12 hits and 10 RBI, while freshman Patrick Libby is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
Series History:
Overall the Manatees are currently 9-3, which included a 11-10 walk-off win at home earlier in the season.
Against the Eagles, the Manatees are 17-5 overall. Last season, they defeated the Eagles twice by scores of 9-4 and 13-4.
