Sophomore Duo Claims First Round at ITA Cup

Rome, Ga - After their strong outing in the ITA Regionals in Tampa, sophomores Carlotta "Carly" Gascon Martinez and Kia Carvalho-Landell got off to a strong start to represent the SCF tennis team as they opened up the first round of doubles at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.

Gascon Martinez and Carvahlo-Landell claimed a three-set win as they defeated the #4 duo of sophomore Isid Hernandez and freshman Ntokozo Zungu of Cowley College in Kansas by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the quarterfinals of East Bracket.

As a result, Gascon Martinez and Carvahlo-Landell will face the #1 seed duo of sophomore Destinee Martins and Lauren Anzalotta from Tyler Junior College. Martins and Anzalotta defeated the unseeded duo of sophomore Seraphina Vossen and freshman Abigail Proktor of West Valley College in California (CCCAA) with a 6-0 pair decision.



Up Next:
Gascon Martinez and Carvahlo-Landell will look to try and defeat Martins and Anzalotta in the semifinals. The winning duo will face either the #2 seed of sophomores Valeriia Cherfus and Naomi McKenzie of St. Pete College and the #3 seed of freshmen Patricia Apisah and Abigail Wild of Tyler JC in the finals of the ITA Cup East Bracket.
