It's the penultimate tournament of the fall schedule as the FGCU men's golf team heads up to Tampa for the Intercollegiate at Innisbrook this Monday and Tuesday. The action starts with 36 holds starting Monday morning with a shot gun start before close out the final 18 holes on Tuesday on the par 71 Copperhead Course (7,209 yards).
The field will be one of the more challenging groups FGCU has faced this fall: No. 16 UCF, No. 28 Houston, No. 39 USF, No. 49 Memphis, Houston, Temple, Wichita State, Campbell, Delaware, Hartford, Houston Baptist, James Madison, Maryland, USC Upstate, William and Mary.
Junior Tyler Carlson (Bradenton, Fla.) has led FGCU over the first two tournaments of the fall with a 70.83 scoring average highlighted by his 27th-place finish at the Golfweek Program Championship. Senior Doug Smith (Widermere, Fla.) and junior J.T. Barker (Bethlehem, Pa.) have each played in the first two tournaments placing just behind Carlson with average scores of 72.50 and 73.67, respectively.
Following the Intercollegiate at Innisbrook, the Eagles will host the Homewood Suites FGCU Classic on Sunday, Nov. 3 and Monday Nov. 4 at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero to close out the fall campaign.
