The SCF volleyball team (2-14, 0-3 Suncoast) fell in their first ever matchup to FSW (9-6, 1-2 Suncoast) at home by a score of 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 18-25).
Before the match began, I had the utmost privilege to sing the national anthem at the game. It's been five years since I did that and it was so good that I gave one of the assistant coaches goosebumps.
Offensively, the freshmen duo of Leilani Wilcox-Nanai and Lisa Jaunet lead the Manatees. Jaunet finished with eight kills while adding two aces and two digs, while Wilcox-Nanai finished with seven kills, 11 digs, an ace and two blocks. Sophomore Barbora Tichackova finished second behind Wilcox-Nanai and Jaunet with six kills, two aces and three blocks.
Freshman Gracee Carpino finished wit a double-double of 23 assists and 10 digs.
Defensively, sophomore Sydney Jaco had 21 digs and two assists. Jaco's 21 digs put her at 1,089 in her career. Sophomore Hannah Strickland followed with 11 digs and an assist.
For the Buccaneers, freshman Julia de Sa led the team with a double-double of 14 kill and 14 digs while classmate Lexi Hurtado followed with 10 kills and five digs and sophomore Marina Alonso finished with 28 assists and six digs.
Defensively, freshman Yasso Amin led the Buccaneers with three blocks to go with her six kills while classmate Viktoria Ivanova finished with eight digs and four aces.

The Manatees will remain at home for the weekend as they welcome Palm Beach (Oct 4 at 6 pm) and Indian River State (Oct 5 at noon).
