5th Herd Closes 2022 on Neutral Grounds

Bradenton, Fla - After taking a couple of weeks off for Christmas break, the SCF basketball team (9-5) return to action and a second chance against a nationally ranked team to close 2022. The Manatees will head to neutral grounds as they will face #2 Chipola College (16-0) Friday afternoon, December 30 at the Visit Panama Beach City Tournament in Panama City, hosted by Gulf Coast State.

The Manatees are 12-14 in 2022, which includes the conference matchups from last season.


Last Time Out:

The Manatees are coming off of splitting on neutral grounds at the Florida JUCO Shootout in Daytona. They would fall to Gulf Coast State (76-63) before bouncing back with a win over Pensacola State (69-65).


Splash Herd:

Sophomores Skylar Wicks and Cobey Harraway lead the path for the Manatees' offense. Wicks is averaging 20.3 points (47.5% from the 3-point line), 4.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game, while Harraway is averaging 14.7 points, 4.1 rebounds. 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. 

Wicks snapped his streak of scoring in double digits against Gulf Coast State after being held to seven points, two rebounds and three assists before bringing it back with 16 points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals. 

Harraway would finish with 15 points, one three assists and five steals against Gulf Coast State and 10 points, one rebound and one assist against Pensacola State.


Tape's Hammer:

Since being placed in the starting lineup, sophomore Ronnail Tape has increased his numbers amazingly from his freshman year. Tape is averaging 8.6 points (3.1 points last season) and 4.5 rebounds (4.4 rebound last season) per game. At the Florida JUCO Shootout, the Fort Myers native had 10 points and six rebounds against Gulf Coast State before finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.


Dish Power:

Aside from Wicks, freshman Malyk Rebetez and sophomore Isaiah 'Ziggy' Josue have been leading the way in assists majorly. 

Rebetez is averaging 4.2 assists per game to along with averaging 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. The Swiss native had a combined two points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals at the Florida JUCO Shootout.

Josue is averaging 3.2 assists per game to go along with 8.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. The transfer from Porterville College (CCCAA) lead with 16 points, six rebounds, one assist and four steals against Gulf Coast State and nine points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals against Pensacola State.


Defending and Boarding:

Alongside Tape, freshmen Josh Ijeh and Dresean Knight have been the main rebounders and blockers for the Manatees in the rotation and bench. Ijeh is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game to go along with 5.6 points and 2.2 blocks per game, while Knight averages 2.3 rebounds, three points and 1.7 blocks per game.

At the Florida JUCO Shootout, Ijeh had a combined five points, 15 rebounds and nine blocks, while Knight had a combined eight points, three rebounds and three blocks.


Wild Showdown:

Sophomore Ametri Moss and freshmen Elijah 'Slim' Terry and Kasheem Grady are the wild card players so far this season.

Moss, who was returning from injury, is averaging 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He had seven points, two rebounds and three assists at the shootout.

Terry, who plays a key role off the bench, is averaging 6.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He had eight points, 11 rebounds and three assists the last two games.

Grady is averaging 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds. He had three points and one rebound against Pensacola State. The Georgia native returned with the team after serving a two-game suspension.


Scouting Chipola College:

The Indians are currently ranked tied for #2 in the nation and are coming off of a sweep at the Florida JUCO Shootout in Melbourne where they defeated St. Pete College (87-65) and Florida Southwestern (70-69) before defeating Enterprise State CC 97-34 Saturday, December 17.

Sophomores Derrick Butler and Deyton Albury lead the offense scoring 13.8 and 12.6 points per game respectively. Butler is also averages 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while Albury averages 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Classmate Jamil Safieddine averages 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Sophomore Paul Greene leads the team in rebounding (7.1 rebounds per game) while averaging 9.3 points per game, while freshman Jerald Colonel lead the defense averaging 1.9 blocks per game to go along with averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
