Raining 3s @ North Alabama Preview

The FGCU women's basketball team (10-4, 1-0 A-SUN) prepare for their first three-game road trip of A-SUN Conference play as they begin in Florence, Alabama to face A-SUN newcomer North Alabama (10-1, 1-0 A-SUN) at Flowers Hall on Tuesday, January 8 at 7 p.m. The game will also be featured as a doubleheader as the men (5-11, 0-1 A-SUN) will also face North Alabama (3-13, 0-1 A-SUN) at 9 p.m.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles opened conference play at home as they defeated A-SUN newcomer Liberty 68-50 in their first ever matchup.

Prior to the game, the Eagles are ranked #8 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.

Junior Nasrin Ulel and redshirt junior Keri Jewett-Giles leading the team offensively.

Ulel is averaging 15.8 points per game. Ulel had 21 points and three rebounds against Liberty.

Jewett-Giles is averaging 12.6 points and 2.7 assists per game. The hometown hero had 13 points and two assists against Liberty.

Redshirt sophomore Chandler Ryan and redshirt senior Lisa Zderadicka are also making a big impact for Raining 3s.

Ryan is averaging 9.5 points per game despite being held to only three points against Liberty.

Zderadicka is averaging 8.5 points and 3.2 assists per game. Despite being held to only two points, Zderadicka had a tied season-high six assists against Liberty.

Junior Tytionia Adderly, who recently moved into third place on the program's career rebounding list, is averaging 5.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Against Liberty, she finished with eight points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. She tied her career-high with a pair of 3-pointers.

Adderly continues to inch toward 700 career rebounds as she has 668 and trails only Sarah Hansen (887) and Whitney Knight (735) on the program's career rebounding list. On top of that, she's also just 12 rebounds shy of 400 in Alico Arena alone. In fact, nobody in program history has averaged more rebounds per game at home (9.0) than Adderly. Adderly's lone offensive board put her 276 while her five defensive boards put her at 392 (6th all-time) and is 13 shy of passing Robyn Swain (404, 2002-04) for fifth all-time.

Not too far behind Adderly is redshirt senior Destiny Washington. Washington is averaging 6.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while also leading the team with 16 blocks (1.1 per game). Washington was one rebound shy of a double-double as she finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Washington was named A-SUN Newcomer of the Week after her performance.

Scouting North Alabama:
The Lions, who are in first place in the standings opened conference play with a 70-64 win against UNF. This was their first conference win as a member of the A-SUN. The Lions finished 9-1 on their non-conference schedule which included a 74-71 win over Power 5 Vanderbilt to open the season. Their lone loss of the season was on Sunday, December 2 against Xavier (94-81).

The Lions are led by junior Brittany Panetti, who leads the A-SUN in scoring and is the reigning A-SUN Player of the Week. Panetti is averaging 17 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. Panetti had a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds and two blocks against UNF.

Other players that play a key factor for the Lions include fellow juniors Emma and Ivy Wallen and Kenysha Coulson.

Emma and Ivy, two of the three Wallen triplets, have been in line for the Lions. The other triplet, Ella, parted ways from the team after averaging 0.5 points per game last season.

Emma is averaging 14.3 points per game. In the game against Lipscomb, she had a game-high 30 points and four rebounds. 24 of Emma's points were from behind the 3-point line. In fact, Emma leads the team in 3-pointers made (54).

Ivy is averaging 13.8 points, 1.9 steals and a team and conference-leading 7.6 assists per game. Against UNF, Ivy had 12 points, assists and three steals.

Coulson is averaging 10.5 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game. Against UNF, Coulson was held to four points and four rebounds.

Series History:
FGCU is 3-0 all-time against North Alabama, but this will be the first meeting since the Eagles defeated the Lions on 83-57 on the road Feb. 1, 2006 and the first meeting for both teams in the DI era. The Eagles are 2-0 in Flowers Hall, including a 66-52 win on Jan. 31, 2005. Candy Myers made 7-for-9 from 3-point range in that matchup 13 years ago, while the team swiped 19 steals, which is still tied for 15th most in a game in program history.
