The SCF baseball team (4-4) went to a slump as they got swept by Miami Dade (6-1) by scores of 7-3, 3-2 and 6-3. With the losses, the Manatees are now 5-10 (2012-present) against the Sharks.
Game One:
Freshman Daniel Batcher would be dubbed with the loss putting him at 1-1 on the year. Batcher gave up five runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Sophomore Rook Ellington finished 1-for-4 with a home run. It was Ellington's first home run with the Manatees.
Game Two:
Sophomore Cole Ayers, who was the starter, would end up with a no-decision after giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
Freshman Clay Callahan was dealt with the loss after giving up a walk-off home run in two-thirds of an inning. Callahan is now 1-1 on the year
Sophomore John Malcolm went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while freshman Cameron Lee brought the second run in despite going 0-for-2 with a walk.
Game Three:
Sophomore Jake Smith would go to 1-1 on the year after the loss. Smith gave up four runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings.
Sophomore Remy Patry had the Manatees lone multi-hit game of the series as he finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Malcolm (1-for-3) and freshman Michael Dorso (1-for-2) each had an RBI. Dorso also threw one scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Sophomore D'Moi Hodge led the Manatees offensively despite being one rebound shy of a double-double. FGCU Softball: FGCU Kickoff Classic Day Two Recap
The FGCU softball team snagged two more games Saturday evening as the Eagles took down Georgetown (0-4), 5-0, followed by a 5-1 win over LIU (2-2) to end the night at the FGCU Softball Complex.
"We had two really good wins tonight and I just like the way we are competing in all aspects," said head coach David Deiros. "In the first game with Marissa, we got on [Georgetown] early and then we couldn't sustain that momentum but we were able to pitch and defend through it. Against LIU, they came out and hit us in the mouth. If McKenna doesn't make that play in center, that's a big first inning and a big hole for us to be in. Sarah settled down after that so I'm really proud of our kids for the effort."

Leadoff hitter Sammi Poehlman started off the bottom of the first with a single and swiped second. McKenna Batterton bunt singled to put runners on the corners. Poehlman was caught in a rundown at home during a fielder's choice off the bat of Haley Morrell but a RBI single from Reedy Davenport scored Batterton. Facing two outs, catcher Ahnie Jumper hit a two-run double to left-center to cap off the frame.
FGCU tacked on another run in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a Batterton double that brought home Kacie Huber. A five-run lead was more than enough for Marissa Mesiemore who retired the last nine batters she faced. The junior righty finished the night tossing six innings, striking out nine Hoyas in the process as she moves to 2-0. Emily Estroff worked the final frame, sitting down the Hoyas in order.
Batterton capped off the game going 4-for-4 with one double, three singles and an RBI.

Johneisha Rowe singled and hustled to second on the first error as she scored with Morrell reaching on the frame's second throwing miscue. Three batters later, Hope Hernandez brought pinch-runner Hannah Shemansky home from third with a knock to left.
Holding onto the narrow lead, pitcher Sarah Lawton began to settle down and got three insurance runs in the sixth from the Eagles off a trio of hits. Hernandez came away with an RBI single while Maddy Johnson produced two runs with her base hit to center.
Lawton moves to 2-0 after tossing a complete five-hit game while striking out three Sharks. Rowe finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

"We took the big lead early and had to go ahead and fight off [Delaware's] advances in the last three innings. Boston College then took the lead and we just kept on battling and came away with the win in extra innings."

Sophomore AJ Fritz was the hero of the game against CCF as he brought in the game-winning run on a single. Fritz finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI. Currently the transfer from the University of Evansville is batting .466 with five RBI.
Another couple batters that has been doing well are sophomore Jamarcus Lyons and John Malcom. Lyons is batting .333 with two RBI, while Malcom is batting .471 with a home run and three RBI. Against CCF, Lyons went 1-for-3 with an RBI double pulling out due to injury while Malcom went 1-for-2 with two walks.

FGCU Softball: FGCU Kickoff Classic Preview
With the 2019 season behind them, the FGCU softball team will begin 2020 at home for 17 straight games. They will first begin with the three-day FGCU Kickoff Classic from Feb. 7-9. The Eagles will welcome Delaware, Boston College, Georgetown, Long Island University and U-Conn.
Last Time Out:
The Eagles finished last season 29-22 overall with a 13-7 record in the A-SUN where they finished 1-2 in the A-SUN Conference Tournament that they hosted at the FGCU Softball Complex. During their season, the Eagles earned opportunities to play in exhibition games against the Canadian and Japanese national teams in success and went 3-1 against three Power 5 Conference Schools with two of them being ranked in the Top 25 in the nation.
The team is led by head coach Dave Deiros, who enters his 18th season as head coach. He is joined by third-year assistant coaches Jamie Kertes and Jaime Edwards. Deiros enters with a 642-337-3 overall record.
Losses and Gains:
The Eagles did lose eight players, which included the 2016 A-SUN Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in Riley Randolph and one of their powerful bats in Racquel Fournet. In addition, the Eagles lost Kate Kelly, Bri Bennett and Brooke Clemens as they graduated.
Now sophomores Emily Hess and Kyleigh Taylor have transferred to different universities. Hess has transferred to NCAA DII Nova Southeastern, while Taylor went to NCAA DII Flagler College. Now senior Marcella Parrado has also parted ways from softball.
Despite losing eight players, Deiros did sign nine newcomers, five freshmen (Hannah Shemansky, Johneisha Rowe, Abbey Thomas, Nicole Hayslip and Jordyn Gendron) and four transfers (Maddy Johnson, Sarah Lawton, Hope Hernandez and Emily Estroff). Johnson and Lawton came from NJCAA Florida Southwestern (FSW).
Johnson, a infielder from Lake Wales, Florida, finished last season batting .370 with five home runs and 50 RBI while adding 32 stolen bases (second on the team). In her career with the Buccaneers, Johnson was a two-time member of the Suncoast All-Academic Team, FCSAA All-Academic Team, All-Suncoast Second Team and All-Suncoast First Team while helping the Buccaneers to two runner-up finishes in the NJCAA Region 8 State Tournament. Johnson is automatically eligible and will have two years of eligibility remaining
A pitcher from Waterbury, Conn, Lawton finished her sophomore campaign with FSW with a 12-2 record, 1.36 ERA, seven saves and 102 strikeouts. She joined Johnson as a member of the All-Suncoast First Team while also helping the Buccaneers to two runner-up finishes in the NJCAA Region 8 State Tournament. Like Johnson, Lawton is automatically eligible and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hernandez, a junior infielder from Tampa, joined FGCU after spending her freshman and sophomore year at Troy University. She finished her sophomore campaign with the Trojans batting .226 with 21 hits and nine RBI. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Estroff, a sophomore pitcher/utility player from Coconut Creek, Fl, spent her freshman campaign at Villanova University. As a member of the Wildcats, Estroff appeared in 13 games batting .250 with three walks and three runs scored. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Scouting Delaware:
The Blue Hens finished last season 22-29 overall with a 7-14 record in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) but did not make it to the postseason.
The Blue Hens lost three seniors on their team, Anna Steinmetz, Sarah Coyne and Miranda O'Donald. Depsite that, they were able to land five newcomers, four freshman (Kate Hondru, Grace Beyer, Grace Rudolph and Emily Winburn and sophomore transfer Kailey Christian.
A pitcher and native of Bradenton, Florida, Christian joined Delaware after spending her freshman campaign at State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) where she led the Manatees to the FCSAA State Tournament after compiling a 22-4 overall with a 2.19 ERA and 196 strikeouts, while batting .366 with a home run and 36 RBI. She was named as a member of the All-Suncoast First Team, Suncoast All-Academic Team and the FCSAA All-State Second Team.
Side Note: I've seen Kailey play at SCF and she is a great pitcher. I mean she's one of only two pitchers I know that have three types of rise balls.
Key returners for the Blue Hens include sophomores Brooke Glanden and Brittany Mendoza and senior Sarah Piening. Glanden finished behind Steinmetz in home runs (7) with a team-leading 30 RBI, while batting .288 and being named a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team. Mendoza finished last season batting .299 with six home runs (third on the team) and 29 RBI (second on the team). Piening finished her junior campaign 14-15 with a 3.92 ERA and 98 strikeouts.
This will be the second all-time meeting between both teams as FGCU narrowly fell to Delaware in 2012, 6-4.
Scouting Boston College:
The Eagles went 18-35 overall and 4-20 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) last spring. Two returners in Emme Martinez led the attack batting .321, while Susanna Anderson posted six wins to go along with a 3.93 ERA.
FGCU leads the all-time series, 3-1.
Scouting Georgetown:
The Hoyas recorded a 14-35 record in 2019, going 6-13 in the Big East. Their top bat in Noelle Holiday (.347) comes back for her senior year as Diller London earned six wins last season in the circle.
FGCU leads the all-time series, 5-0.
Scouting LIU:
The LIU Sharks are coming off a strong season after going 36-18 overall and 14-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Kiana Cisneros led the Sharks last season with a .376 batting average, while Elena Valenzuela produced 19 wins in the circle with a 2.19 ERA.
FGCU leads the all-time series 12-4.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles finished last season 29-22 overall with a 13-7 record in the A-SUN where they finished 1-2 in the A-SUN Conference Tournament that they hosted at the FGCU Softball Complex. During their season, the Eagles earned opportunities to play in exhibition games against the Canadian and Japanese national teams in success and went 3-1 against three Power 5 Conference Schools with two of them being ranked in the Top 25 in the nation.
The team is led by head coach Dave Deiros, who enters his 18th season as head coach. He is joined by third-year assistant coaches Jamie Kertes and Jaime Edwards. Deiros enters with a 642-337-3 overall record.
Losses and Gains:
The Eagles did lose eight players, which included the 2016 A-SUN Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in Riley Randolph and one of their powerful bats in Racquel Fournet. In addition, the Eagles lost Kate Kelly, Bri Bennett and Brooke Clemens as they graduated.
Now sophomores Emily Hess and Kyleigh Taylor have transferred to different universities. Hess has transferred to NCAA DII Nova Southeastern, while Taylor went to NCAA DII Flagler College. Now senior Marcella Parrado has also parted ways from softball.
Despite losing eight players, Deiros did sign nine newcomers, five freshmen (Hannah Shemansky, Johneisha Rowe, Abbey Thomas, Nicole Hayslip and Jordyn Gendron) and four transfers (Maddy Johnson, Sarah Lawton, Hope Hernandez and Emily Estroff). Johnson and Lawton came from NJCAA Florida Southwestern (FSW).
Johnson, a infielder from Lake Wales, Florida, finished last season batting .370 with five home runs and 50 RBI while adding 32 stolen bases (second on the team). In her career with the Buccaneers, Johnson was a two-time member of the Suncoast All-Academic Team, FCSAA All-Academic Team, All-Suncoast Second Team and All-Suncoast First Team while helping the Buccaneers to two runner-up finishes in the NJCAA Region 8 State Tournament. Johnson is automatically eligible and will have two years of eligibility remaining
A pitcher from Waterbury, Conn, Lawton finished her sophomore campaign with FSW with a 12-2 record, 1.36 ERA, seven saves and 102 strikeouts. She joined Johnson as a member of the All-Suncoast First Team while also helping the Buccaneers to two runner-up finishes in the NJCAA Region 8 State Tournament. Like Johnson, Lawton is automatically eligible and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hernandez, a junior infielder from Tampa, joined FGCU after spending her freshman and sophomore year at Troy University. She finished her sophomore campaign with the Trojans batting .226 with 21 hits and nine RBI. She will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Estroff, a sophomore pitcher/utility player from Coconut Creek, Fl, spent her freshman campaign at Villanova University. As a member of the Wildcats, Estroff appeared in 13 games batting .250 with three walks and three runs scored. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Scouting Delaware:
The Blue Hens finished last season 22-29 overall with a 7-14 record in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) but did not make it to the postseason.
The Blue Hens lost three seniors on their team, Anna Steinmetz, Sarah Coyne and Miranda O'Donald. Depsite that, they were able to land five newcomers, four freshman (Kate Hondru, Grace Beyer, Grace Rudolph and Emily Winburn and sophomore transfer Kailey Christian.
A pitcher and native of Bradenton, Florida, Christian joined Delaware after spending her freshman campaign at State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) where she led the Manatees to the FCSAA State Tournament after compiling a 22-4 overall with a 2.19 ERA and 196 strikeouts, while batting .366 with a home run and 36 RBI. She was named as a member of the All-Suncoast First Team, Suncoast All-Academic Team and the FCSAA All-State Second Team.
Side Note: I've seen Kailey play at SCF and she is a great pitcher. I mean she's one of only two pitchers I know that have three types of rise balls.
Key returners for the Blue Hens include sophomores Brooke Glanden and Brittany Mendoza and senior Sarah Piening. Glanden finished behind Steinmetz in home runs (7) with a team-leading 30 RBI, while batting .288 and being named a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team. Mendoza finished last season batting .299 with six home runs (third on the team) and 29 RBI (second on the team). Piening finished her junior campaign 14-15 with a 3.92 ERA and 98 strikeouts.
This will be the second all-time meeting between both teams as FGCU narrowly fell to Delaware in 2012, 6-4.
Scouting Boston College:
The Eagles went 18-35 overall and 4-20 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) last spring. Two returners in Emme Martinez led the attack batting .321, while Susanna Anderson posted six wins to go along with a 3.93 ERA.
FGCU leads the all-time series, 3-1.
Scouting Georgetown:
The Hoyas recorded a 14-35 record in 2019, going 6-13 in the Big East. Their top bat in Noelle Holiday (.347) comes back for her senior year as Diller London earned six wins last season in the circle.

The LIU Sharks are coming off a strong season after going 36-18 overall and 14-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Kiana Cisneros led the Sharks last season with a .376 batting average, while Elena Valenzuela produced 19 wins in the circle with a 2.19 ERA.

SCF Baseball Claims Home Opener Over CCF
In front of over 50 scouts from all 30 Major League Baseball teams and several universities, the SCF baseball team (4-1) pulled away with a walk-off win over Central Florida (3-1) winning by a score of 3-2 in their home opener at Wynn Field. With the win, the Manatees are now 9-6-2 (2012-present) against the Patriots.
"I thought the game tonight was a state tournament style game," said head coach Tim Hill II. "I felt like CCF had a pretty good club because they threw some really good arms at us and I thought we threw some good arms at them. There were a lot of strikeouts tonight and every pitch meant something. Just being able to open in that kind of game on our home field and come across with the win feels good."
For the starters, Hill II sent sophomore Jakob Mattos to the mound, while CCF head coach Marty Smith sent sophomore Adam Tulloch to counter.
For the first three innings of the game, it was a back and forth battle between Mattos and Tulloch as both continued to trade off a combined 11 strikeouts, two hits and seven walks.
Evidently, Mattos would be stopped after three innings as Hill II sent freshman David Barrett to the mound. Meanwhile, Tulloch was continuing to hold the Manatees not only scoreless, but hitless too.
At the bottom of the fifth, Smith would pull Tulloch out and sent sophomore Carson King to the mound. This gave the Manatees the first crack of getting on the board first. The bottom half of the inning began with a leadoff single to center by sophomore Remi Patry before he advanced to second on a wild pitch. After back-to-back outs, sophomore AJ Fritz would bring Patry home on a single to give the Manatees a 1-0 lead. Following the Fritz single, classmate Jamarcus Lyons would send Fritz home with a double to center before removing himself after hurting his ankle. Freshman Owen Ayers would come in as a pinch runner before the end of the inning.
At the top of the sixth, the Patriots would get on the board after an RBI groundout by sophomore JC Mendez sent sophomore Colton Vincent home to make it 2-1 SCF.
While the Manatees continued to hold on to their lead, they were also making pitching changes. At the top of the seventh, Hill pulled Barrett out and sent freshman Austen Kessler to the mound for the next two innings. At the top of the eighth, the Patriots were able to tie the game at 2-2 after redshirt freshman Matthew Cedarburg scored on a Kessler wild pitch even though he was able to finish to the end of the eighth.
With one out at the top of the ninth, Hill made one more pitching change as he sent Clay Callahan to the mound to pitch and was able to strikeout Cedarburg to end the top half.
In the bottom, the Manatees secured their moment to shine. With sophomore Evan Michelson on the mound, Patry struck out on a drop third strike to start the inning. Following that, freshman Steven Nitch would hit a one-out single to left. After sophomore Rook Ellington drew a walk, all eyes turned to Fritz to try and get the game winner. On a full count, the native of Lebanon, Ohio smacked a hard single past redshirt sophomore Taber Mongero and sent home Nitch for the win.
"It felt great and the pitchers really helped us hold it down even though our offense struggled a bit," said Fritz on the win. "Credit also goes to CCF's pitching as well because their staff did a really good job and we just capitalized when we needed to."
"It was coming right at him (Mongero) and I got lucky with a tough hop and he was in a great position, but sometimes the ball doesn't go your way," said Fritz on the game winner. "Coincidentally, it was karma because Remi (Patry) had a tough hop earlier in the game and that came as a way to justify itself."
Although both pitchers threw scoreless innings, Mattos and Tulloch both had no decisions in their starts. Mattos gave up two hits with four walks and struck out four batters in three innings, while Tulloch threw four hitless and scoreless innings with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Callahan would earn the win for the Manatees after throwing two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout.
"It was breath taking," said Callahan on his first collegiate win. "It's your first college home game and to get the win in that kind of situation was breath taking."
Barrett gave up one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in three innings, while Kessler gave up one unearned run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
Michelson would be credited with the loss after giving up one unearned run on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
King gave up two runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts, while freshman Parker Seay pitched 2.1 scoreless innings giving up two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Fritz would finish 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored, while Lyons went 1-for-3 with the RBI double.
Patry and sophomore John Malcolm had one hit each. Patry had one run scored Malcolm drew two walks.
"The kids battled hard to the end," said Hill II. "They didn't try to do too much and squared it up and that paid it off."
Cedarburg had the Patriots lone multi-hit game as he went 2-for-4 with a run.

SCF Baseball Opens at Home vs Central Florida
After a uphill battle on neutral grounds, the SCF baseball team (3-1) will have their home opener Wednesday afternoon at 5 pm. The Manatees will welcome Central Florida (3-0) to Wynn Field.
Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of finishing this past weekend 2-1 in Fort Myers. They defeated Broward College and Gulf Coast State College both by a score of 6-2 before falling 13-8 to #5 Chipola.
Sophomores Aaron McKeithan and AJ Fritz lead the team with four RBI each. McKeithan also has a home run in his name. In Fort Myers, McKeithan, a transfer from Tulane, went 3-for-9 with a home run and four RBI while Fritz, a transfer from Evansville, went 4-for-9 with three RBI.
On the mound, sophomore Jake Smith is 1-0 with 11 strikeouts and an 0.00 ERA. Smith threw four innings with nine strikeouts in his last start against Gulf Coast State.
Freshman Daniel Batcher threw five innings against Broward and gave up two unearned runs with five strikeouts. Batcher is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and six strikeouts.

Senior Nasrin Ulel produced a career-high 36 points to tie the program's single-game scoring record and lead the No. 24 FGCU women's basketball team (22-2, 9-0 A-SUN) to an 81-68 win over Jacksonville (13-9, 5-4 A-SUN) on the road in Historic Swisher Gymnasium on Monday.
The Green and Blue pushed their winning streak to 11 straight overall and 37 in a row in conference play. They are 26-3 all-time against Jacksonville and 15-2 as a ranked Division I team.
"We beat a really good team," FGCU head coach Karl Smesko said. "Jacksonville is really aggressive and forces a lot of turnovers. They're hard to guard off the dribble, and they have some quick, athletic kids. I thought in the first half, we moved the ball really well. We got a lot of good shots, which gave us a good lead. We didn't finish very strong in the fourth quarter, but give Jacksonville credit for fighting all the way to the end."
Ulel finished 11-for-16 from the field, including 5-for-9 from the 3-point line. She also made 9-of-10 from the foul line while adding seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal. In the first half alone, she had 22 points, and she had 34 through three quarters. In doing so, she tied Rosemarie Julien's single-game record of 36 set at Stetson on Jan. 7, 2017.
"Nas had it going," Smesko said. "She got hot. We didn't hit many threes in the first half or shoot a very good percentage, but she had several. Then, she was able to get to the rim, and she was able to get to the foul line. They had good defenders on her, but she was just really, really good tonight."
The Eagles jumped out to 12-0 lead while holding Jacksonville scoreless for the game's first four and a half minutes. Ulel and Ashli O'Neal each had nine points in the opening quarter, while a trio of players drew charges over the first 13 minutes.
Despite struggling from 3-point range, FGCU shot 14-for-19 from inside long distance in the first half as both teams shot above 50 percent from the field. The Green and Blue pushed their winning streak to 11 straight overall and 37 in a row in conference play. They are 26-3 all-time against Jacksonville and 15-2 as a ranked Division I team.
"We beat a really good team," FGCU head coach Karl Smesko said. "Jacksonville is really aggressive and forces a lot of turnovers. They're hard to guard off the dribble, and they have some quick, athletic kids. I thought in the first half, we moved the ball really well. We got a lot of good shots, which gave us a good lead. We didn't finish very strong in the fourth quarter, but give Jacksonville credit for fighting all the way to the end."
Ulel finished 11-for-16 from the field, including 5-for-9 from the 3-point line. She also made 9-of-10 from the foul line while adding seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal. In the first half alone, she had 22 points, and she had 34 through three quarters. In doing so, she tied Rosemarie Julien's single-game record of 36 set at Stetson on Jan. 7, 2017.
"Nas had it going," Smesko said. "She got hot. We didn't hit many threes in the first half or shoot a very good percentage, but she had several. Then, she was able to get to the rim, and she was able to get to the foul line. They had good defenders on her, but she was just really, really good tonight."
The Eagles jumped out to 12-0 lead while holding Jacksonville scoreless for the game's first four and a half minutes. Ulel and Ashli O'Neal each had nine points in the opening quarter, while a trio of players drew charges over the first 13 minutes.

FGCU WGolf: Mid-American Match Play Challenge Recap
The top-seeded FGCU women's golf team defeated Akron and Western Michigan to capture the Mid-American Match Play Challenge championship on Tuesday at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
"What a way to start the season. I am very proud of the team for finishing out this win," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "It's never easy to secure a victory even when you are the top-seeded team in match play. This morning, we started out really rough but pulled it together and played phenomenal golf on the back nine. We were able to take that confidence into the championship match and pull out the win. Kudos to Akron and Western Michigan for great play today."
The trio of Sarah Edwards, Natalia Nassar and Ailsa Clark each won both of their head-to-head matches to carry the Eagles to the title. Edwards took care of business first in the championship, clinching her win on the 14th hole, just before Clark won hers on the 15th hole. SCF Baseball Goes 2-1 in Fort Myers
The SCF baseball team (3-1) fought a big at City of Palms Park in Ft. Myers as they defeated Broward College (0-1) 6-2 in seven innings on Friday night and Gulf Coast State (3-1) 4-1 Saturday night before falling 13-8 to #5 Chipola College (4-0) Sunday afternoon. With the series, the Manatees are now 16-7 against the Seahawks, 5-2 against the Commodores and 9-13 against the Indians.
SCF vs Broward*:
For game one against Broward SCF head coach Tim Hill II sent freshman Daniel Batcher to the mound, while Broward head coach Gregg Bennis sent sophomore Trace Moore to counter.
Batcher would earn his first win of the season after five innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Freshman Clay Callan threw two scoreless innings with one strikeout.
Moore would earn the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innigs.
Redshirt freshman Matthew Whitney gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings.
Sophomore Aaron McKeithan led the way for the Manatees batting 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season with three RBI and two runs scored. Classmate John Malcom went 1-for-3 with his first collegiate home run in his career.

SCF Tennis Fights With Southeastern in Scrimmage

Although it was ruled as a scrimmage, the SCF tennis team dropped their matchup against NAIA Southeastern losing by a score of 5-4.
The matchup began with doubles as the freshman duo of Karla Menendez and Martina Shakhnazarova defeated the duo of sophomore Beatrice Letizia and freshman Nadezda Bijelic by a score of 8-3 at #2 doubles.
Following them, freshman Allie Beck and redshirt freshman Mackenzie Vraspir fell to the sophomore duo of Mia Dunagan and Priscila Baptista at #3 doubles by a score of 8-4.
For the final doubles match, the sophomore duo of Sara Ramirez-Goncalves and Britain Botsford defeated the duo of junior Angelique Myrtil and senior Sharienne Ricardo by a score of 8-6 at #1 doubles. The Manatees were ahead 2-1.
"My performance in doubles wasn't the best," said Ramirez-Goncalves. "I was very nervous and very tight. I didn't play how I normally played, so I just try to erase that from my memory. At the end, me and Brie (Botsford) won and Brie was a really good support even though we didn't play our best. She still kept me down to earth to what we needed to do."
"We worked a lot on doubles this week and definitely showed improvement in that," said head coach Chloe Murphy. "I'm so proud of them for showing it and making adjustments"
After 15 minutes of warming up and getting hydrated, singles play went underway.
In a exhibition match, redshirt freshman Alexis Booker fell to freshman Kishaundah Romain 8-5 in one single set.
Shakhnazarova would be the first to fall as she fell to Letizia at #2 singles in a 6-0 pair decision to tie the score at 2-2. Letizia was named as a member of the NAIA All-American Second Team last season
Botford would be the next person to fall as she fell in 6-1 pair decision to Bijelic at #3 singles to give the Lady Flames a 3-2 lead. At #5 singles, Vraspir would fall Baptista in a 6-2 pair decision.
With the score 4-2 in favor of Southeastern, Menendez would not let Myrtil get in her way as she cut the Lady Flames lead to one at #4 singles as native of Cordoba, Mexico defeated Myrtil 7-6, 6-0 leaving it down to Beck and Ramirez-Goncalves.
Beck continued to try and fight at #6 singles, but ultimately would fall to 6-4, 6-3 giving Southeastern the win. Despite the loss, Ramirez-Goncalves went on to continue playing as she defeated the reigning NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in Ricardo by a score of 7-6 (3), 6-2 at #1 singles.
"It wasn't the result we wanted," said Murphy on singles. "But it was a lot of things we can take back to the practice court and work on with three more chances to get better next week."
"Because it was only me in singles, I know if I make a mistake, it's on me," said Ramirez-Goncalves on her singles match. "I know that there is no one else that depends on me on my performance. I was a lot more relaxed and fought much more in doubles. It was really nice and I'm glad how I played in singles."
Opinion*: The crowd, which was majorly the SCF basketball team as well as members of the baseball, softball and volleyball team, all came to support the tennis team for their opening matchup, despite it being a scrimmage and I have to say it was pretty lively to say the least.
"It was phenomenal," said Murphy on the support. "The girls always like to play when there's people around and it's more fun to play when you got people to support you and we appreciate the support from all the teams that came to see us. It meant a lot for the girls to see their fellow athletes play."
"It was a really good thing to have such a big crowd today with their support," said Ramirez-Goncalves on the support. "They were wonderful and it was the first time that that amount of people showed up."

The Manatees will have another home scrimmage as they welcome NCAA DII Rollins College Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm. Following that, the Manatees will have their official opening match of the season as they travel to Tampa to take on the University of Tampa. The Spartans finished last season 12-8 overall with a 4-6 record in the Sunshine State Conference.
SCF Softball Falls Day Two of JUCO Showcase
The SCF softball team (1-3) dropped the final two game of the JUCO Kickoff Showcase as they fell to Seminole State (2-0) 7-1 before losing 8-0 via mercy rule to Central Florida (6-0) as a no-hitter. With the losses, the Manatees are now 7-13 against the Raiders and 13-19 against the Patriots. Originally, the Manatees were scheduled to face Palm Beach State in the tournament, but the game was cancelled due to the weather.
SCF vs Seminole:
For game one, head coach Mandy Schuerman sent sophomore Ashlee Zientek to the mound, while Seminole head coach Courtney Miller sent Marissa Adame to counter. The Seminoles would get on the board in the second and third inning and continued to hold the Manatees scoreless.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Manatees were able to get on the board as freshman Kristin Kopp brought in Maddie Koczersut on a fielding error, but it was all the Manatees could produce.

Freshman Samantha Hampton threw five innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks.

2nd Herd Falls to FSW in Rematch
The SCF basketball team (18-8, 4-4 Suncoast) dropped their second straight conference game and lost their first game at home as they fell to #2 FSW (24-1, 7-0 Suncoast) 94-67. The Manatees still have yet to defeat the Buccaneers as they are now 0-12.
Offensively, the Manatees were led sophomore D'Moi Hodge and freshman Jordan Clark. Hodge led the team with 28 points (11-for-26 FG, 5-for-13 3PT, 1-for-1 FT), four rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks, while Clark finished with 15 points (5-for-8 FG, 6-for-7 FT), two rebounds and a steal.
Freshman Marshall Kearing had six points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Sophomore Christnoff Scarborough and Max Bell-Ramos each had five points. Scarborough led the Manatees in rebounding (6) to go along with two steals, while Bell-Ramos, who earned his second career start, added two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Sophomore Remy Robert II (two points, three rebounds and a steal), redshirt freshmen Calvin McCutcheon (three points and one rebound) and Jaylen Jones (one rebound and one assist) and freshman Michael Gavin (three points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal) also contributed for the Manatees. Robert II earned his first start of the season.
Seven Buccaneers scored in double figures. Freshman Jermaine Marshall led the Buccaneers with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Jalen Finch had a double-double of 10 points and 11 assists.
Freshman Hasahnn Reynolds had 12 points off the bench, while redshirt sophomore Ralph Bissainthe and sophomores Keon Ellis and Berrick JeanLouis had 11 points each. Sophomore Simeon Kirkland rounded out the Buccaneers with 10 points.

The Manatees were without sophomore Isiah Dasher in the lineup for the second straight game due to an ankle injury in the game against SPC. Dasher still remains 99 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
With his 27 points, Hodge now has 662 points this season and 1,260 in his career. Hodge is 101 points away for most points in a single season and 81 away for most career points. Both record were held by James Life (762: single season record; 1,341: career points).

SCF Softball Splits Day One of JUCO Showcase
The SCF softball team (1-1) split to start off the JUCO Kickoff Showcase at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater. as they defeated Northwest Florida State (0-1) 6-5 before falling to Pensacola State (1-0) 8-0 via mercy rule. With the split, the Manatees are now 2-1 against the Raiders and 1-2 against the Pirates.
SCF vs NWFS:
For game one, head coach Mandy Schuerman sent freshman Ally Hulme to the mound, while NWFS head coach Andy Lee sent sophomore Lauren Rase to counter.
At the top of the first, Schuerman pulled Hulme after three pitches and sent sophomore Ashlee Zientek to the mound. After giving up a lead-off double, Zientek brushed it off and struck out the next three batters.
In the bottom of the first, freshmen Emily Hughes and Lilly Salazar would begin the onslaught of attack with back-to-back singles. With Hughes on third, Salazar was able to steal second while classmate Kristin Kopp came to the plate. On an 2-1 count, Kopp would ground out to first while sending Hughes home. After sophomore Madelyn Graham drew a walk and freshman Maddie Koczersut popped out, sophomore Madi LoCastro would send a double to center and send Salazar home for a 2-0 SCF lead.
While the Manatees remained in the lead, Zientek continued to fight the Raiders on the mound as she put up seven strikeouts in the first three innings.
In the bottom of the third with two outs, Koczersut would send a shot to left for her collegiate home run to make it 3-0.
At the top of the fourth, the Raiders would get on the board after a two-run shot to left by freshman Abby Sulte. Eventually, Zientek would bounce back from it and get out of the inning.
After Zientek gave up a leadoff double at the top of the fifth, Schuerman would pull her out and send freshman Samantha Hampton to the mound. Hampton would end up giving up the tying run after off of a double by sophomore transfer Lele Martinez before freshman Amber Divine gave the Raiders a 4-3 leading after reaching on a fielder's choice. After giving up an RBI single to sophomore Ariana Cipriano to make it 5-3 NWFS, Schuerman would pull Hampton and resend Hulme to the mound.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Manatees attempted to make their comeback. The Manatees began with back-to-back walks drawn by Koczersut and LoCastro, Hampton would give the Manatees would tie the game at 5-5 with a two-RBI double before giving the Manatees a 6-5 lead after scoring on a passed ball.
At the top of the seventh, Hulme gave up back-to-back walks with freshman Gabrielle Fischetti at the plate to try and tie or even take the lead for the Raiders. On a 1-2 count, Fischetti would hit a line drive that was caught by freshman Emily Hughes which was then turned into a double play with freshman Carly Bogart after Cipriano, the runner on second, did not tag second base. With one final push, Hulme would strikeout Rase and get the win for SCF to start the season.
Hulme and Zientek would each earn a no decision. Hulme threw three scoreless innings while walking four and striking out four. Zientek would give up three run on five hits, while walking three and striking out tied career-high eight batters.
Hampton would get the win despite not throwing any innings and giving up two runs on three hits. Hampton would finish 1-for-1 with two RBI and was the only Manatee with a multi-RBI game.
Rase would earn a no-decision after giving up three runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out one in three innings
Freshman Jade Mention would be dubbed with the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits, while walking two and striking out three in 2.1 innings.
Freshman Ivey Hill threw one-third of an inning in relief.
Bogart would be the only Manatee with a multi-hit game as she finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, while Koczersut went 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored.
LoCastro, Hughes and Salazar had the teams three remaining hits. Salazar also added a stolen base to the mix.
Sophomore Ashley Autuori had the Raiders' only multi-hit game as she finished 2-for-4 with two doubles. Sulte went 1-for-3 with the two run homer.
SCF vs Pensacola:
For game two, Schuerman sent LoCastro to the mound while Pensacola head coach Lyndsey Angus sent freshman Jorja Barrett to counter.
The Manatees were unable to connect any offense to try and get on the board.
LoCastro was dubbed with the loss after giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits with one walk and one strikeout in two innings.
Hulme gave up three runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
Barrett would be credited with the win after throwing three scoreless innings giving one hit, walking two and striking out two.
Graham and Hughes were the lone Manatees that had hits.
