SCF Baseball Goes 2-1 in Fort Myers

The SCF baseball team (3-1) fought a big at City of Palms Park in Ft. Myers as they defeated Broward College (0-1) 6-2 in seven innings on Friday night and Gulf Coast State (3-1) 4-1 Saturday night before falling 13-8 to #5 Chipola College (4-0) Sunday afternoon. With the series, the Manatees are now 16-7 against the Seahawks, 5-2 against the Commodores and 9-13 against the Indians.

SCF vs Broward*:
For game one against Broward SCF head coach Tim Hill II sent freshman Daniel Batcher to the mound, while Broward head coach Gregg Bennis sent sophomore Trace Moore to counter.

Batcher would earn his first win of the season after five innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Freshman Clay Callan threw two scoreless innings with one strikeout.

Moore would earn the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innigs.

Redshirt freshman Matthew Whitney gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings.

Sophomore Aaron McKeithan led the way for the Manatees batting 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season with three RBI and two runs scored. Classmate John Malcom went 1-for-3 with his first collegiate home run in his career.

Sophomore Nick Winkelmeyer (2-for-4) and freshman Jacob Steinberg (2-for-3) had two hits and a run scored each.

Redshirt sophomore Franco Perdomo brought in the Seahawks' lone run on an RBI single. Perdomo finished 1-for-2 in the game. Classmate Ihosvanny Castaneda had the team's second hit as he finished 1-for-2 with a double.

SCF vs GCSC*:
For game two against GCSC, Hill II sent sophomore Jake Smith to the mound while GCSC head coach Mike Kandler sent sophomore Eli Ellington to counter.

Smith would end up getting the win for the Manatees after throwing four scoreless innings and giving up one hit with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Sophomore Jakob Mattos would be credited with the save after throwing one scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Freshman Matt Gelorme and David Barrett threw two innings each. Gelorme gave up the Commodores lone run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts, while Barrett gave up one walk with two strikeouts.

Ellington would earn the loss after giving up three runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings.

Sophomore Parker Dean threw 3.1 scoreless innings giving up three hits and striking out three batters, while freshman Laiten Hudson gave up one run on three hits with three strikeouts.

Offensively for the Manatees, sophomore Remi Patry was 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Malcom (2-for-4) classmate AJ Fritz (2-for-2) each had two hits apiece. Malcolm added a run scored, while Fritz added an RBI and a walk.

Sophomore Justin Kelley brought the Commodores only run as he hit a solo shot.

SCF vs #5 Chipola:
For game three, Hill II sent sophomore Cole Ayers to the mound, while Chipola head coach Jeff Johnson sent sophomore Andrew Moore to counter.

Cole Ayers would be credited with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings.

Moore would get the win after giving up three runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings.

Steinberg and classmate Owen Ayers, Malcom and McKeithan had two hits each. Steinberg led the way with three RBI and a run, while Ayers had two runs scored, Malcom had two runs scored and an RBI and McKeithan had one RBI.

Sophomore Daniel Cerda led the Indians batting 3-for-6 with four RBI, while freshman Andre Tarver was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Notes:
Freshman Steven Nitch made his collegiate debut against GCSC going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Classmate Cameron Lee made his debut in the game against Chipola going 0-for-1 with a walk.

Mattos made his SCF debut after spending his freshman year at Coastal Carolina.

Cole Ayers made his SCF debut after spending his freshman year at Kentucky.

Other Suncoast Scores:
Florida Southwestern (2-2) also split at the same time as SCF where they fell 7-1 to Chipola before defeating Gulf Coast State 4-1. The Buccaneers will face Miami Dade Tuesday afternoon, February 4 at 2 pm.

South Florida State (3-0) defeated Northwest Florida State 10-4 and Pensacola State 6-3. The Panthers will play Webber International's 'B' team Monday afternoon, February 3 at 4 pm.

Polk State (2-3) defeated Lake Sumter State 15-3. The Eagles will face Pasco-Hernando State Tuesday night, February 4 at 5 pm.

St. Pete College (0-2) fell to Northwest Florida State 5-1 in seven innings before falling to Miami Dade by a score of 10-7. The Titans will face Santa Fe College at home Monday afternoon, February 3 at 2 pm.

Hillsborough (1-4) went 1-2 on the weekend as they fell 10-4 to Santa Fe and 11-8 to Seminole State  before defeating Indian River 10-3. The Hawks will face PHSCMonday afternoon, February 3 at 2 pm.
