SCF Baseball Opens at Home vs Central Florida

After a uphill battle on neutral grounds, the SCF baseball team (3-1) will have their home opener Wednesday afternoon at 5 pm. The Manatees will welcome Central Florida (3-0) to Wynn Field.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of finishing this past weekend 2-1 in Fort Myers. They defeated Broward College and Gulf Coast State College both by a score of 6-2 before falling 13-8 to #5 Chipola.

Sophomores Aaron McKeithan and AJ Fritz lead the team with four RBI each. McKeithan also has a home run in his name. In Fort Myers, McKeithan, a transfer from Tulane, went 3-for-9 with a home run and four RBI while Fritz, a transfer from Evansville, went 4-for-9 with three RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Jake Smith is 1-0 with 11 strikeouts and an 0.00 ERA. Smith threw four innings with nine strikeouts in his last start against Gulf Coast State.

Freshman Daniel Batcher threw five innings against Broward and gave up two unearned runs with five strikeouts. Batcher is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and six strikeouts.

Scouting Central Florida:
The Patriots are coming off of barely defeating the University of Tampa JV team by a score of 13-12. The Patriots finished last season 44-9 overall with a 18-6 record in the Mid-Florida Conference where they were named the Mid-Florida Conference Champions.

Sophomore Roberto Pena currently leads the team batting .333 with two home runs and five RBI. Pena was 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI against UT JV.

Sophomore Chase Watkins has seven strikeouts in his name while going 1-0 on the record.

Series History (2012-present):
Overall, the Manatees hold an 8-6-2 record against the Patriots. The last time both teams met, the Patriots claimed the series winning 10-4 (2/6/19) and 4-3 (2/13/19). The Manatees last win over the Patriots was on February 7, 2018 where they won 8-7 and also had 5-5 tie.

Personal Opinion: How is it that we end some games in a tie? Well honestly my guess from the last two seasons was because of travel curfew or something like that.
