FGCU MBB vs Upstate Recap

After the women's game, the FGCU men's basketball team (20-8, 11-0 A-SUN) wrapped up their three-game road trip with a win over Upstate (7-21, 2-9 A-SUN). The Eagles, who were down 44-29 in the first half, rallied a 59-27 second half and ended up erasing a 15-point deficit and won 88-71. With the win, the Eagles are not only on a 13-game winning streak and are 16-6 against the Spartans, but manged to claim their second-straight outright regular-season crown.

Five players scored in double digits. It was sophomore RaySean Scott Jr who lead the charge offensively for the Eagles. Scott, who played off the bench, had 21 points (8-10 FG, 5-6 FT) and six rebounds.

From the starters, redshirt senior Brandon Goodwin had 19 points (8-15 FG, 1-3 3FG, 2-3 FT), six rebounds, six assists and one steal.

Redshirt junior Zach Johnson had 14 points (5-11, 1-4 3FG, 3-5 FT), two rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Redshirt senior Antravious Simmons had 11 points (5-6 FG, 1-1 FT), six rebounds and one steal.

Redshirt junior Dinero Mercurius had seven points, two rebounds, two assists and one block.

Redshirt junior Michael Gilmore was held scoreless, but contributed with six rebounds.

Aside from Scott off the bench, senior Christian Terrell had 14 points (5-10 FG, 1-3 3FG, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, six assists and one steal.

Redshirt junior Ricky Doyle, who returned from concussion protocol, had two points, two rebounds and one block.

Redshirt sophomore Brady Ernst contributed with one rebound.

For the Spartans, redshirt junior Mike Cunningham had 26 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Junior Deion Holmes had 16 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Senior Ramel Thompkins had 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Junior Malik Moore had seven points, seven rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Junior Jure Span had three points, four rebounds and seven assists.

Off the Spartans bench, freshman Avery Diggs had three points, two rebounds and one assist.

Senior Carson Smith had three points, one rebound and two assists.

Freshman Isaiah Anderson contributed with four rebounds and one steal.

Redshirt freshman Thomas Booker contributed with two rebounds and one steal.

Junior Pat Welch also entered the game.

Up next, the Eagles return home to play as they play Kennesaw and Lipscomb for their last two home games of the season.
