FGCU MBB vs. NJIT Recap

The FGCU men's basketball (19-8, 10-0 A-SUN) swept the season against NJIT (12-13, 5-5 A-SUN) as the Eagles clipped the Highlanders 75-70 in a rematch at NJIT. With the win, the Eagles are now 5-1 against NJIT and remain in sole possession of first place in the A-SUN. In addition, the Eagles are now on a 12-game winning streak.

Five players for the Eagles scored in double digits. Leading the way offensively for the Eagles was senior Christian Terrell. Terrell, who played off the bench, had 17 points (5-6 FG, 2-3 3FG, 5-6 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

From the starting rotation, redshirt junior Zach Johnson had 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 3FG), three rebounds and three assists.

Redshirt senior Brandon Goodwin had 14 points (5-11 FG, 1-2 3FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Redshirt senior Antravious Simmons had 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-4 FT) and four rebounds.

Redshirt junior Dinero Mercurius had 10 points (2-4 FG, 2-4 3FG, 4-4 FT), one rebound, two assists and four steals.

Redshirt junior Michael Gilmore had five points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Sophomore RaySean Scott Jr had two points and two rebounds.

For the Highlanders, Junior Abdul Lewis had 23 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore Anthony Tarke had 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Sophomore Shyquan Gibbs had five points, two rebounds and three assists.

Junior Diandre Wilson had four points, one rebound and one steal.

Junior Reilly Walsh had two points, two rebounds and two assists.

Off the Highlander bench, freshman Zach Cooks had nine points, one rebound, two assists and four steals.

Junior Donovan Greer had six points, one rebound, one assist and two steals.

Freshman Shawndale Jones contributed with two assists while junior Mohamed Bendary contributed with two rebounds and one steal.

Up next, the Eagles wrap up their three-game road as they face USC Upstate on February 10 at 4 P.M.
