SCF Tennis Readies for St. Pete

Bradenton, Fla - After a couple of matches did not happen due to cancellations and postponements, the #6 SCF tennis team (2-0, 1-0 Region 8) looks to continue Region 8 Conference play as they play #4 St. Pete College (3-1) at the Treasure Bay Tennis Complex in Treasure Island Friday afternoon, February 25 at 3 pm.


Last Time Out:

The Manatees are coming off of finishing their last match against #9 Eastern Florida State where they won 9-0. It was their first sweep over an opponent since March 27, 2019 against St. Catherine University.

Originally, the Manatees were scheduled to play Central Alabama Community College on February 22, but the matchup was ultimately cancelled. Following their cancelled match, they were scheduled to take on Friday, February 18, but that match was postponed to a later date to be determined.

In doubles action, sophomores Kia Carvalho-Landell and Carly Gascon Martinez, who are #4 in the nation in doubles are 2-0 this season. In fact, all three teams, which include #17 sophomores Sarah Forsyth and Luna Mouton, are 2-0.

In singles play, five of the six players are 2-0. Gascon Martinez, who is ranked #33 in the nation, is 1-1 after winning her singles match at the #1 singles spot against her former team in Eastern Florida State. She is the only player that has a loss in singles action.

De Freitas Bonet, who is ranked #12 in the nation, and Carvalho-Landell, who is #30 in the nation, are two of the five players that are 2-0 on the season.


Scouting St. Pete:

The Lady Titans, who are ranked #4 in the nation in the ITA, are coming off of opening the season on neutral ground at Collin College in Plano, Texas for two days. They would split the first day of their Texas road trip winning the first matchup against Cowley County CC (5-4) before losing to #1 Tyler Junior College (8-1), the defending NJCAA National Champions. On day two, they would defeat Seward County CC (5-4) before defeating #9 Eastern Florida State this past Friday by a score of 9-0.

Sophomore Naomi McKenzie is 2-1 at #1 singles and 3-0 at #1 doubles with classmate Valeriia Cherfus.


The Manatees are 8-11 against the Lady Titans.
