SCF Tennis Falls to SPC

Treasure Island, Fla - The SCF tennis team (2-1, 1-1 Region 8) dropped a heartbreaking matchup as they fell to  #4 St. Pete College (4-1, 2-0 Region 8) in 5-4 tough battle at the Treasure Island Tennis Complex in Treasure Island. With the loss, the Manatees are now 8-12 against the Lady Titans. 

Beginning with doubles, the duo of sophomore Lou De Freitas Bonet and Sakurako Suzuki (3-0) defeated redshirt sophomore Maria Garcia Pulido and freshman Georgia Lily Lynn Browne 8-0 at the #2 doubles position. The sophomore duo of #4 Kia Carvalho-Landell and Carlota Gascon Martinez (2-1) would fall to fellow sophomore duo Naomi McKenzie and Valeriia Cherfus 8-4 at the #1 doubles position before the sophomore duo of #17 Sarah Forsyth and Luna Mouton would defeat sophomores Lucia Garcia and Karla Ortega 8-6 at the #3 double position. The Manatees would go ahead 2-1 after doubles play.

As singles play commenced, the Lady would soon take the lead as #12 De Freitas Bonet would fall to Cherfus 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles. Forsyth would follow the path as she fell to Lynn Browne 6-3, 6-0 at #4 singles before #30 Gascon Martinez fell to McKenzie 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles. The Lady would lead 4-2.

With three matches left, #33 Carvalho-Landell was able to keep her fight going into three sets as she defeated Garcia Pulido 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 at #3 singles. Suzuki and freshman Jessica Bustamante would finish at the same time with two different results. Suzuki would win her match at #5 singles with a 6-4 pair decision over sophomore Lucia Garcia before Bustamante fell to Tada 6-0, 6-2.

Other Region 8 Scores:

#2 Hillsborough (1-0, 1-0 Region 8) shutout #9 Eastern Florida State (1-3, 0-3 Region 8) 9-0. The Hawks will take on St. Pete Wednesday afternoon, March 9 at 3 pm. The Lady Titans will welcome Rollins College (NCAA DII) Friday afternoon, March 4 at 3 pm.
