FGCU M. Soc @ Georgia Southern Preview

In the "Battle of the Eagles", the FGCU men's soccer team will hit the road for the second time this season as the squad travels to face the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Friday's clash will mark the first meeting between both teams. FGCU will be looking to bounce back after going toe-to-toe with top-ranked Wake Forest last weekend, while GS has yet to lose a match and are coming off a 3-0 win over A-SUN foe UNF.

Right now leading the offensive charge is freshman O'Vonte Mullings. The Toronto native has accounted for all of the Eagle's goals, netting two in the opening weekend and scored the lone goal against #1 Wake Forest last Saturday.

Sophomore Chris Clement leads the squad with a pair of assists – connecting twice with Mullings against Presbyterian.

Redshirt sophomore Connor Gavigan (1-1) is coming off back-to-back starts in net for the Eagles.

A-SUN Look:
FGCU was narrowly picked 2nd in the ASUN preseason coaches' poll earlier this month, making it the first time since 2012 the Eagles were not selected as the preseason league favorite. Senior Preston Kilwien was installed as league's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year while junior Shak Adams and senior Dennis Zapata joined Kilwien on the preseason all-conference team as FGCU's three selections were the most of any team in the league.

Scouting Georgia Southern:
GS is coming off a 9-8-1 overall 2017 season and went 3-2-0 in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). At season's end, the Eagles reached the SBC semifinals championship game. Currently 2-0-1, Georgia Southern kicked off the season blanking VCU 2-0, tied with Old Dominion in double overtime 2-2 and picked up a 3-0 victory over UNF last Friday.

Javier Carbonell, the reigning SBC Player of the Week, spearheads the offensive attack as he's racked up four goals this season with two assists. Carbonell has taken a team-high 12 shots with six coming on frame.

Right behind him is Adam Davie who has scored a trio of goals, recording a total of nine shots, five on goal.

In three games, starting keeper Jokull Blaengsson has conceded two goals to go along with 11 saves in 290 minutes.

The match is slated for a 7 p.m. kick and will be broadcasted on ESPN 3.
