FGCU Softball @ North Alabama Preview

The FGCU softball team (17-15, 3-3 A-SUN) enters its third A-SUN series of the season as the Eagles travel to North Alabama (17-11, 3-3 A-SUN) for three contests Saturday-Sunday at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium in Florence, Alabama.

Last Time Out:
FGCU split a pair of midweek contests at home against FAU Wednesday evening. In game one the Eagles edged the Owl in a 3-2 decision as senior Kate Kelly went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Sophomore Marissa Mesiemore garnered the win, tossing a complete game, scattering six hits while surrendering one earned run. Game two was highlighted by a two-run home run from sophomore Haley Morrell in the first inning as the Eagles ultimately fell, 7-2.

On offense Kelly leads the team in hits (36), posting a .375 batting average and is a threat on the bases going 15-for-18 in stolen base attempts. Freshman Reedy Davenport leads the team in RBI (21) while holding a .281 BA. Senior Racquel Fournet is the Eagles' second .300 plus hitter, owning a .306 BA.

In the circle, senior Riley Randolph has collected 13 wins in 19 starts, holding opposing batters to a .186 BA. She is currently tied for ninth in the nation in shutouts (six), seventh in ERA (1.08), and 12th in strikeouts (158).

The pitching staff as a whole has combined to post a 2.08 ERA.

Scouting the Lions:

UNA most recently snagged two of three games from Stetson in DeLand, Fla., as they fell in the final contest, 2-1. Junior Veronica Westfall leads the team in hitting (.388), posting 11 RBI. Meanwhile, sophomore Harley Stokes has driven a team-best 18 runners, owning a .291 BA.

In the circle, five Lions have seen work this season, with junior Megan Garst boasting a 0.89 ERA in 79 innings of work, collecting nine wins and just three losses.. The staff as a whole has a combined 2.01 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting .201 off the Lions' pitchers.

This will be the first time the Eagles play the Lions, who were the 2016 NCAA DII College Softball World Series Champions.
