FGCU Softball vs Jacksonville Preview

 The FGCU softball team  (21-16, 6-3 A-SUN) welcomes Jacksonville (13-16, 1-8 A-SUN) for a three-game series Saturday-Sunday at the FGCU Softball Complex.

Last Time Out:
FGCU is coming off a three-game road sweep of North Alabama last weekend in which they outscored the Lions 13-3. Sophomore Marissa Mesiemore collected all three wins over the weekend giving up no earned runs in 17.1 innings as she limited UNA batters' to a .164 average. Her overall week consisted of a 4-0 record in the circle (win against FAU Apr. 3) as she was named the A-SUN Pitcher of the Week for the first time Monday afternoon. The Bushnell native became the second Eagle pitcher to collect each win in a three-game A-SUN series since Jaclyn Owen in 2013 against Northern Kentucky.

Another sophomore in Farley Callaghan excelled at the plate over the weekend, hitting the game-winning home run Saturday in the 1-0 win. She followed it up Sunday with another homer as she capped off her day going 2-for-2 with two RBI.

FGCU's scheduled doubleheader at FIU this past Wednesday was cancelled due to field conditions and there will not be a makeup date. 

Pink Out:
All weekend long, the FGCU Marketing staff will be selling 2018-19 "FGCU Family" pink shirts for just $10. You can support the cure by making a donation as all proceeds will go towards the Amercian Cancer Society. Sunday's finale will be the Eagles 'Pink Out' game.

The Green and Blue:
On offense Kate Kelly leads the team in hits (39), batting average (.364) and stolen bases (16).  Freshman Reedy Davenport leads the team in RBI (21) while holding a .283 BA. Senior Racquel Fournet is the Eagles' second .300 plus hitter, owning a .303 BA and is second on the team in RBI (20).

In the circle, Riley Randolph has collected 13 wins in 20 starts, holding opposing batters to a .191 BA. She is currently tied for 11th in the nation in shutouts (six), ninth in ERA (1.10), and 18th in strikeouts (160).

The pitching staff as a whole has combined to post a 1.94 ERA.

Scouting the Dolphins:
JU is currently on a 10-game skid as this will mark its second A-SUN road series of the season. At the plate, junior Maryland transfer Kassidy Cross leads the Dolphins in hitting (.388) as she's posted 52 hits. Meanwhile, sophomore Abby Genest has driven in a team-best 19 runners.

In the circle, JU has utilized four pitchers with junior Alyssa Bilodeau collecting a team-bets seven wins with a 3.10 ERA. Opposing players are batting .262 off the Dolphins' staff as they hold a collective 3.69 ERA.

FGCU leads the all-time series 24-8, winning the last four contests while outscoring JU, 24-8.
