2nd Herd Heads to FSW Classic

The SCF basketball team (5-2) will be back on neutral grounds as they travel to Fort Myers for the weekend to compete in the two-day FSW Classic at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena, hosted by fellow Suncoast Conference member #3 Florida Southwestern (FSW). The Manatees will face Denmark Technical College (0-4) on Friday, November 22 before facing Snow College (3-4) Saturday, November 23. Both games times are to be determined. FSW (7-0) and Polk State (5-0) will also be competing in the classic, but will not face SCF until January 4, 2020 (Polk State) and January 15, 2020 (FSW) for Suncoast Conference play.

The games against Denmark and Snow will be the first ever matchups for SCF.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of returning home defeating Pasco-Hernando State 121-60. This was SCF's first sweep of the series this season and the third highest winning game in program history and highest since December 15, 2017.

Sophomores D'Moi Hodge and Isiah Dasher and freshman Jordan Clark continue leading the Manatees offensively.

Hodge is averaging 28 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 2.6 blocks per game. In the game against PHSC, the commit to Cleveland State had a double-double of 33 points and 17 rebounds to go along with nine assists, two steals and four blocks. In fact, Hodge was one assist shy of having a triple-double. It was announced after the game that Hodge was named the FCSAA All-State and NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week for this past weekend.

Dasher also finished the game against PHSC with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, four assists, a steal and two blocks. Dasher is averaging 19 points, 7.6 rebounds and five assists per game.

Clark finished with 17 points with 15 of them coming from behind the 3-point line against PHSC. He also added three rebounds and two assists. Clark is averaging 16 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

As far as the big men, freshman Marshall Kearing and sophomore Christnoff Scarborough continue to pave the way on both ends of the floor.

Kearing nearly had a double-double against as he finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Currently, the native of Perth, Australia is averaging 10 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.

Scarborough was held scoreless while adding two rebounds, but despite that the Clearwater native is averaging 4.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Redshirt freshman Calvin McCutcheon and freshman Michael Gavin had been big wildcards for the Manatees. Following his seven point, four assist game over PHSC, McCutcheon is averaging 4.9 points and 3.7 assists per game. Gavin had a season-high 11 points and is averaging 4.1 points

Two New Debuts:
At the game against PHSC, two more names made their debuts, redshirt freshman Jaylen Jones and freshman Sam Grayson. Jones had eight points, two rebounds and three assists after sitting out last season and dealing with a suspension earlier this season. Grayson had four points and four rebounds after dealing with an MCL tear in his knee.

Scouting Denmark Tech:
Denmark Tech competes in NJCAA Region 10/Carolinas Junior College Conference (CJCC). The Panthers are led by head coach Jamar Washington.

The Panthers are coming off of this past weekend falling to South Georgia State College 88-71 before losing to Andrew College by a score of 82-75.

Freshman Quincy Irons leading the team averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Irons had 16 points and seven rebounds against Andrew College.

Sophomore Spencer Grant follows Irons averaging 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Against Andrew College, Grant had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Two other freshmen players, Keiman Dillon and Carieon Robbins, are both averaging 10 points per game. Dillon is averaging 4.5 rebounds per game. Dillon had 10 points and five rebounds against Andrew, while Robbins had 11 points off the bench,

Although his turnovers per game is high (4.5), freshman Nigel Lawson Jr. averages 6.5 assists per game while adding 9.5 points per game. Lawson Jr. had three points and six assists against Andrew.

Scouting Snow College:
Snow College compete in NJCAA Region 18/Scenic West Athletic Conference in Utah. The team is led by athletic director/head coach Robert Nielson.

The Badgers are coming off this past weekend on a split. They would fall to Lamar College 78-74 before defeating Central Wyoming 75-64.

Freshman Trey Farrer leads the Badgers averaging 14.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Farrer had a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds against Central Wyoming.

Following Farrer is sophomore Brayden Johnson as he averages 11.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Johnson had nine points and eight rebounds against Central Wyoming.
