SCF Baseball Readies for South Florida State

Bradenton, Fla - The RV SCF baseball team (3-1) will look to keep their winning ways in good fashion for the next two games. The will welcome former Suncoast Conference member South Florida State (1-2) Wednesday night, February 1 at 6 pm.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of opening their season with the inaugural SCF Legends Classic. They would fall to Gulf Coast State (3-2) at CoolToday Park in North Port before winning the last three games against #17 Northwest Florida State (12-0 (7)), Miami Dade (6-5) and Eastern Florida State (10-4) at Wynn Field. As a result, they were named the inaugural SCF Legends Classic Champions.

At the plate, freshman Jayce Blalock leads the way batting .600 with a home run and two RBI, while sophomore Kevin Karstetter follows batting .500 with a home run and five RBI.


No-Hit Fire:
Freshman Michael Forret was the talk of the state after his historic outing on Saturday against Northwest Florida State. Forret, a transfer from Eastern Carolina University, threw a seven inning no-hitter with three strikeouts in in his first start. It was the first no-hitter thrown by a Manatee in 32 years since Jules VanLanduyt did so in 1991 against South Florida State. Additionally, Forret was named the NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week

Classmate Ed Wagner nearly followed Forret in his game against Eastern Florida as he went through five inning, giving up one unearned run on one hit with three walks and four strikeouts. Wagner joined after transferring from George Washington University.

Scouting South Florida State:
The Panthers are coming off of defeating Webber International University (NAIA JV) 9-5 on the road Monday. For this season, they will be playing at division two.

On the mound, Logan Adams leads the way going 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and six strikeouts in five and a third innings of play.

At the plate, Ian Anderson (.571, four hits and one RBI), Nick Gargano (.333 with four RBI) and Pedro Moreno (.286, one home run and three RBI) lead the way.

Overall, the Manatees are 43-17 against the Panthers.
