SCF Softball remains on the Road

Bradenton, Fla - The SCF softball team (4-0) continue to play on the road for their next series as they travel to Gainesville to take on Santa Fe College (3-3) at the SFC Softball Complex Friday afternoon, February 3 at 1 and 3 pm.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of opening their season on neutral grounds with the three-day JUCO Kickoff Classic in Clearwater where they split losing to Eastern Florida State (9-1), Gulf Coast State (16-7) before defeating Georgia Highlands (14-1 (5)) and St. John's River State (9-0).

On the mound, freshmen Brielle Bostow and Karsyn Rutherford lead the way for the Manatees.

Bostow is currently 1-0 with a 2.90 ERA, five walks and six strikeouts. In her last outing, the Tarpon Springs native threw a five-inning complete game against Georgia Highlands.

Rutherford is 1-1 with a 9.94 ERA, two walks and four strikeouts. She threw a five-hit shutout against St. John's River State with four strikeouts.

At the plate, the leader of the offense majorly is freshman Alissa Kessler. Kessler, who transferred from Florida Atlantic University, is currently batting .556 with five hits, one home run and six RBI.

Sophomore Chantel Schurr is batting .400 with four hits and two RBI, while freshman Taylor Halback is batting .500 with five hits and five RBI.

On the basepaths, sophomore Liv Siebert and freshmen Maddisan Noriega and Stephanie Oaks lead the way. Sibert is batting .222 with two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases, while Noriega is batting .222 with two hits, two RBI and three stolen bases. Oaks is batting .286 with three hits, seven runs and four stolen bases.

Sophomores Tori Copeland, Molly Starinsky and Renee Dixon and redshirt freshman Jordan O'Brien are the wild cards of the team.

Copeland is batting .300 with three hits, two RBI and one stolen base. The transfer from Warner University was 3-for-6 combined in the last two games of the classic with two RBI and a stolen base.

Starinsky is currently batting .200 with an RBI. She went 1-for-1 with one RBI in the game against St. John's River State.

Dixon came in for a pinch hit situation against Georgia Highlands where she hit a bases-loaded two-RBI double. She is currently .500 with two RBI.

O'Brien is currently batting .400 with three runs scored.

The New 2:
Coach Mandy Schuerman made a historic moment for herself at the JUCO Classic as she earned her 240th and 241st win. The wins put Schuerman at #2 overall in wins as head coach as she surpassed Meredith Headings (240, 2007-14). Schuerman's next milestone will be 250 wins.


New Signees:
Earlier in the week, local high school athletes from Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte have signed their National Letters of Intent to play collegiately in their respected sports. Three of the athletes have committed to playing softball for SCF: Ryleigh Bennett, Saremi Flores and Addisyn Schwied (all from Riverview High School in Sarasota).


Scouting Santa Fe:
The Lady Saints opened the season at the JUCO Kickoff Classic where they split two of the days losing to #1 Florida Southwestern (3-0) and Parkland College (5-3) and defeating Indian River State (8-4) and South Georgia State (9-0 (5)). They would then split a series with Florida State College at Jacksonville (8-2: W; 6-4: L).

Sophomore Lily Garnett-Brown leads the overall offense batting .368 with seven hits, one home run and seven RBI. Classmate Abrianna Hickox leads the overall batting with a .545 batting average, 12 hits, a home run and four RBI.

Sophomore Sophie Abrams, who returns for a third year, is 2-1 overall with a 5.11 ERA, five walks and 10 strikeouts.

Overall, the Manatees are 23-9 against the Lady Saints.
