SCF SB Wraps Up First Long Road Trip

Bradenton, Fla - The SCF softball team (3-3) will wrap up their road trip of the first eight games of the season. The Manatees will be on neutral grounds as they travel to Fort Myers for the Florida Southwestern Paradise Cove Tournament at CenturyLink Sports Complex, hosted by #1 Florida Southwestern State (4-1), where they will take on #14 Chipola College (2-3) and St. John's River State (2-4) Saturday morning, February 4 at 10 am and 12:45 pm.

#12 College of Central Florida (5-1), Miami Dade (3-2), Indian River State (6-3) and St. Thomas University DT (NAIA) will also be participating in the tournament.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of splitting their series against Santa Fe in Gainesville. They would lose the first game 1-0 before winning the second game 3-0.

On the mound, freshman Karsyn Rutherford leads the way as she is 2-1 with a 4.73 ERA, five walks and four strikeouts. In the second game against Santa Fe, Rutherford threw a seven inning shutout for the win.

Classmate Brielle Bostow follows along going 1-1 with a 2.23 ERA, seven walks and six strikeouts. She threw six innings and gave up one run in the first game against Santa Fe.

At the plate, freshman Alissa Kessler leads the way as she is batting .429 with six hits, a home run and six RBI. Sophomores Tori Copeland and Chantel Schurr follow alongside Kessler. Copeland is batting .375 with two RBI, while Schurr is batting .313 with two RBI.

On the basepaths, sophomore Liv Siebert and freshmen Maddisan Noriega and Stephanie Oaks are the speedsters for the Manatees. Siebert has two stolen bases while batting .214 with two RBI. Noriega has three stolen bases while batting .167 with two RBI, while Oaks is batting .182 with eight runs and four stolen bases.

Scouting Chipola:
The Indians, who were picked to be ranked #14 in the NJCAA Top 25 Preseason Polls, opened their season at the Battle of the Bosque Tournament in Waco. On the first day of the tournament, they would split with McLennan CC winning game one 11-4 before losing game two 5-2. They were then swept the second day of the tournament losing to #20 San Jacinto (4-3) and #8 Grayson (10-2 in six) before closing their portion with a 5-2 win over #3 Odessa College. In fact, they were the only team from Florida to participate in the tournament.

Sophomore Janelle Martinez leads the overall offense batting .500 with nine hits, two home runs and seven RBI. Classmate Jaydn Burney leads the hitting with a .556 batting average with 10 hits and five runs.

On the mound, sophomore Charity Bibbs and freshman Amari Brown each have the Indians two wins. Bibbs has a 3.94 ERA with eight walks and five strikeouts, while Brown has a 1.11 ERA and three strikeouts.

The Manatees are 4-14 against the Indians. Last time both teams met was on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Courtney Miller Invitational where the Manatees defeated the Indians 6-2.

Scouting St. John's River State:
The Vikings are coming off of opening their part of the FSW Paradise Cove Tournament after losses to Indian River State (14-2) and host #1 FSW (13-9). Prior to that, they played Seminole State College in a doubleheader where they lost by scores of 11-3 and 12-3.

Sophomore Candice Winder leads the way at the plate batting .500 with nine hits and three RBI. At the plate, sophomore Tayler Barrett is 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA and three strikeouts.

The Manatees are 11-8 against the Vikings, which included the 9-0 win at the JUCO Kickoff Classic earlier this season.
