SCF Tennis Shines at ITA Regionals

Tampa, Fl - After postponing their match against NAIA St. Thomas University, the SCF tennis team officially opened their fall season with the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Florida Regional Championship, hosted by Hillsborough Community College.

On day one, the Manatees opened with seven singles matches (five at 8:30 am, two at 10:30 am) against a variety of different colleges. Redshirt sophomore Kia Carvalho-Landell would open with the first win against SPC by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-0.

After sophomore Luna Mouton fell in three sets, classmate Lou De Freitas Bonet would advance to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-0 win against SPC before sophomores Carlotta "Carly" Gascon Martinez and Sarah Forsyth and freshmen Jessica Bustamante and Jenna Gusto fell in their singles matches. Mouton, Gascon Martinez, Forsyth, Bustamante and Gusto move down to the consolation bracket. Carvalho-Landell and Gascon Martinez would then advanced to the semifinals in doubles against HCC to end day one of the regionals.

On day two, De Freitas Bonet would advance to the semifinals in the main bracket by a score of 6-3, 6-1 over HCC before falling 6-3, 6-1 to HCC. After Mouton, Forsyth, Bustamante and Gusto fell in their singles matches in the consolation bracket, Gascon Martinez would advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket before setting her focus with Carvalho-Landell in the doubles main bracket.

While Bustamante and Mouton fell in their double match, Carvalho-Landell and Gascon Martinez would advance to the finals in the main draw where they would be named runner-up after falling to SPC before Forsyth and De Freitas Bonet won the finals of the doubles consolation bracket over SPC.


Notes:

Bustamante, Gusto and Gascon Martinez all made their fall debuts for the Manatees. Gascon Martinez joined the Manatees after transferring from fellow conference member Eastern Florida State.
