Bradenton, Fla - The SCF volleyball team (0-3, 0-2 Suncoast) continues to look for their first win of the season as they remain at Hal Chasey Gymnasium for their next match. The Manatees will welcome #4 Florida Southwestern State (6-2, 1-0 Suncoast) Saturday afternoon, September 11 at 3 pm.
Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off a tough 3-0 loss to Indian River State at home. The 2021 season has been a little tough for the team as they have had to cancel five of their matches due to various reasons.
The French Duet:
Sophomore Lison Stoffel and freshman Lana Sandanom have been strong benefactors for the Manatees. Stoffel, who has played a little more of a defensive role, has 13 assists and 12 digs, while Sandanom has two kills and four digs.
In the match against Indian River, Stoffel had four digs, while Sandanom, who earned her first start, had two kills and two digs.
Killing the Beat:
Sophomore Jazmin Spencer has improved abundantly offensively as she leads with 39 kills, 22 digs and five aces. Against Indian River, Spencer had 10 kills, two digs and an ace.
An Angel Has Her Wings:
For freshman Anllel Caballero Fernandez, she continues to use her height and power for her offense. Caballero Fernandez currently has 36 kills, 18 digs and four blocks in her name. She posted her first collegiate double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs.
Other players that have stepped in include sophomores Giulia Rodrigues, Kaylee Forman and Adelene Jideofor. Rodrigues leads the way with 42 digs and two aces, while Forman leads with 90 assists and 21 digs and Jideofor has 15 kills and four blocks.
Scouting FSW:
The Buccaneers are currently ranked #1 in the state, but their performances have put them at #4 in the nation. They are coming off of a hard fought battle at home as they defeated #2 Miami Dade 3-2. Three players had a double-double in the match.
Prior to their match with SCF, they will play Indian River State Thursday night, September 9.
Sophomore Maria Petkova is leading the path for the Buccaneers offensively as she has 109 kills, 109 digs and 18 blocks. Petkova had a double-double of a 15 kills and a game-leading 22 digs against MDC.
Freshmen Barbara Koehler and Maria Cecilia follow behind Petkova with 79 and 70 kills respectively. Koehler also has 18 blocks and eight aces in her name, while Cecilia has 26 blocks in her name. Against MDC, Koehler had a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs with four blocks, while Cecilia had 11 kills and four blocks.
From the setter standpoint, sophomores Fiona Baker and Yunju Lee lead the path. Baker is leading the way with 205 assists, seven aces and 64 digs, while Lee, a transfer from Seward County CC, follows with 109 assists and 54 digs. The setter duo both played against MDC with Baker finishing with 34 assists and seven digs and Lee finishing with a double-double of 19 assists and 19 digs.
Defensively, freshmen Deborah Ribero and Arianna Rossi lead the path. Ribero leads with 53 blocks to go along with 37 kills, while Rossi leads with 134 digs and eight aces. Against MDC, Ribero had seven kills and 10 blocks, while Rossi had 19 digs, two aces and seven assists.
Series History:
The Manatees are 0-4 against the Buccaneers. All four matches ended in 3-0 losses.
