SCF VB Returns Home for Conference Play

Bradenton, Fla - The SCF volleyball team (0-2, 0-1 Suncoast) return home to Hal Chasey Gymnasium after four straight matches on the road. The Manatees will welcome Indian River State (1-4, 1-1 Suncoast) Tuesday night, September 7 at 6 pm. This will be the Manatees first conference match at home.

Last Time Out:

The Manatees are coming off of their first match on the road as they fell 3-1 to Santa Fe College in Gainesville before traveling to Miami Gardens for two days to play three scrimmages against St. Thomas University (NAIA: varsity and the developmental team) and Ave Maria University (NAIA).


Another Cancellation:

Originally, the Manatees were scheduled to play Trinity College of Florida (NCCAA) on the road (8/27) before returning home to play Webber International University (8/28), but those two matches were cancelled. They were the fourth and fifth matches that the Manatees had to be cancelled on. The first three were the two scrimmages at home against Webber and one match on the road against Pasco-Hernando State.


Smooth Jaz:

Offensively, the Manatees are lead by sophomore Jazmin Spencer. Spencer currently leads the team with 29 kills, four aces and 20 digs (10 digs per match). Against Santa Fe, she had a double-double of a career-high 18 kills and 10 digs with one ace. In fact, it was Spencer's second straight double-double this season.


Spanish Power:

Following behind Spencer is freshman Anllelivis Caballero Fernandez. The 6-7 Spaniard has 22 kills and four blocks. Fernandez had eight kills and three blocks (two solo) against Santa Fe.


Fort Myers Miracle:

Sophomore Jadyn Wallen has also improved on her offensive end as she is third on the team in kills (16) and digs (14). Wallen had nine kills, six digs and two aces against Santa Fe.


Constructing Assists:

Sophomore Kaylee Forman has been a strong benefactor on the assisting end. Forman currently has 60 assists and 12 digs for the Manatees. In the last match against Santa Fe, she had a double-double of 38 assists and 10 digs.


Two New Debuts:

The Manatees had two more new debuts play during the match against Santa Fe: freshmen Taryn Wright and Lana Sandanom. Wright had five digs in two sets, while Sandanom had two digs in one set. Both were the second and third newcomers to make their debuts.

Additionally, sophomore Faith Blaise played her first match and secured two kills, an ace, two digs and a block.


Defense:

From the defensive side, sophomore Giulia Rodrigues lead the way. Rodrigues currently has 29 digs on the team, in which she had 20 against Santa Fe.


Scouting Indian River State:

The Pioneers are coming off of a 3-1 loss to #17 Hillsborough. They earned their first win by defeating Polk State 3-1 at home.

Sophomore Doris De Prato and freshman Greta Klotz lead the way for the Pioneers offensively with 49 (De Prato) and 47 (Klotz) kills respectively. Additionally, De Prato has 52 digs (second on team) and a team-leading seven aces, while Klotz adds five aces and seven blocks.

Sophomore Izabella Rae leads the team with 152 assists and 37 digs, while defensively, classmates Jazmin Sayre leads with 62 digs and Jeyhlen Thomas leads with 17 blocks and 34 kills.


Series History:

The Manatees are 3-5 against the Pioneers. Last time both teams met was on October 5, 2019 where the Manatees lost 3-0. The Manatees last win over the Pioneers was on October 7, 2017 by a score of 3-2.
