SCF VB Falls in Conference Opener

Gainesville, Fla - A strong first set for the SCF volleyball team (0-2, 0-1 Suncoast) was seemingly not enough as they fell to Santa Fe College (2-2, 1-1 Suncoast) 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 22-25).

Leading the path for the Manatees was redshirt sophomore Jazmin Spencer and sophomore Kaylee Forman as both had a double-double and an ace. Spencer had a double-double of a career-high 18 kills and 10 blocks, while Forman had one of 38 assists and 10 digs. Spencer also had an assist to her stats. 

Sophomore Jadyn Wallen was second behind Spencer as she finished with nine kills, six digs and two aces, while freshman Anllevilis Caballero Fernandez added eight kills, a dig and three blocks (two solo) and sophomore Adelene Jidefor rounded out the lineup with seven kills, a dig and a block.

Defensively, sophomore Giulia Rodrigues lead the way with 20 digs and four assists.

Redshirt sophomore Kaysha Kahai-Enos (two blocks and two digs), sophomore Faith Blaise (two kills, one ace, two digs and a block) and freshman Lana Sandanom (two digs) and Taryn Wright (five digs) also contributed for the Manatees.

For the Lady Saints, freshman Abbey James lead the way with nine kills and five digs, while classmate Emily Loose added 39 assists and nine digs.

Notes:

This was the debuts of Sandanom and Wright. Sandanom joined the team after graduating from Lycee Bellavue High School in Saint Denis, while Wright joined after graduating from Winter Haven High School.

Blaise made her sophomore debut for the team.

Up Next:

The Manatees will remain on the road as they travel to Miami Gardens to take on NAIA St. Thomas University Friday night, September 3 at 6 pm before playing a doubleheader against the St. Thomas University Developmental Team and NAIA Ave Maria University JV team Saturday, September 4. The match against the St. Thomas University Developmental Team will be ruled as a scrimmage and will not count towards the Manatees record.
