FGCU M. Golf: Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic Final Round Recap

The FGCU men's golf team shot a 303 (+15) in the final round of the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic on Monday at Old Corkscrew Golf Club to finish fourth among nine teams with a 918 (+54). It was the team's highest finish of the fall season.

Campbell (882), the 46th-ranked team in the country via GolfStat, won the event by four strokes over UT Arlington, while Eastern Kentucky finished third - nine strokes ahead of FGCU. Senior Andrew Potter led the Green and Blue with a seventh-place finish following a 223 (+7), which included a final-round 75 (+3).

"We saw some improvement today, but it was still disappointing overall," FGCU head coach Eric Booker said. "We're a much better team than the results indicate. We will do some evaluation and refocus our attention on improving before the spring season. On the positive side, Andrew had another top 10 performance and Cole shot a 71 today. We had some players under the weather, but we'll get healthy for this spring."

In Monday's final round, sophomore Cole Castro shot a team-low 71 (-1), while freshman Tate Heintzelman finished with a 4-over 76. Heintzelman totaled a 228 (+12) to finish tied for 16th, while Castro tied for 19th with a 230 (+14).

Potter, meanwhile, led the Eagles once again. He didn't go under par in any of the three rounds, but led all of his teammates by at least five strokes and posted his third top 10 finish over four tournaments this fall. In fact, the seventh-place showing was his best of the season so far.

Chase Bigham led FGCU's group of four individuals competing with a 234 (+18), which was good for a top 25 finish.

The Eagles will be back in action this spring beginning with the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on Feb. 25-26.
