FGCU Tennis: Finemark FGCU Collegiate Open Day Three Recap

The FGCU tennis team wrapped up day three as they played only doubles to wrap up day three of the Finemark FGCU Collegiate Open at the Bonita Bay Club in Bonita Spring, Florida.

The men faced Memphis while the women faced UCF and USF.

The men pulled off three doubles win as juniors Pipe Ramirez and Feliksas Sakalauskas defeated Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson 6-2, junior Marcelo Tebet and senior Ezequiel Cerrini
defeated Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow 6-2, and senior Felipe Escobar and sophomore Juan Montes defeated Matt Story and Jeremy Taylor 6-3.

For the women, freshman Ariana Chan and senior Patri Villar defeated USF's Alexandria Mjos and Selin Yaylali 1-0.

Junior Sofia Perez and sophomore Madison Gallegos faced senior Julia Ascua and junior Maja Ornberg in a friendly match.

"From the competition side of things, I am really encouraged by my team's effort this weekend," head coach CJ Weber said. "We hosted some very stiff competition, and the guys handled themselves extremely well and we competed our best of the last day, which is always pleasing to see as a coach that we perform our best at the end of events. Marcelo (Tebet) had a great breakthrough event; and his only loss was against one of Memphis's top players. He, and all of the players, have been so open minded to grow and develop and learn new things about themselves. This is a special group of guys; and I'm really looking forward to seeing what this team has in store for the spring season!"

Both teams will wrap up the fall season with the Dick Vitale Invitational in Bradenton, Florida.
