"We are disappointed with our play today," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We have been on such a hot streak and expected more out of our opening round. We looked flat the entire day and didn't get anything going. When we missed the green we didn't get it up and down. We let an opportunity slip through our hands today, but the good news is we still have two more rounds to shake this off and play like we are capable of. I truly believe that we will turn around Monday and finish strong."
The duo had five of the team's nine birdies. Edmonds is coming off her record-breaking performance in the Johnie Imes Invitational Oct. 1-3, birdied the third hole and sat at even-par through 15 holes. Despite a bogey on the 17th, the freshman is in a tie for 17th at 1-over.
Marck-Sherk opened with birdies on three of the first four holes. After a tough +5 stretch over holes six through nine, the senior rebounded to shoot even-par on the back nine. She sits in a tie for 29th-place individually at 2-over.
Senior Jean Tyrrell finished third on the team with a 77 (+5), while fellow senior Kelsy Holbert (78, +6) and sophomore Natalia Nassar (79, +7) finished just behind her. Nassar and Tyrrell each had a pair of birdies.

Quotes from Other Coaches:
McNeese State: "The Cowgirls played awesome today," said head coach Mike Fluty. "We learned some valuable lessons today. We learned you can recover from mistakes and still salvage a good round if you stay calm, believe in your skills, and focus on the job at hand."
"We are beginning to look at mistakes as learning opportunities," Fluty said. "I was impressed by our calm demeanor and positive attitude all day."
USF: "Today was a great day," said head coach Erika Brennan. "The girls stayed in the fight all the way through to the finish and they made birdies down the stretch, which was great to see them staying aggressive. Natalia's putter got super hot on the back nine and to finish with three birdies was clutch. Ramya and Jackie were steady all day and Sadie fought hard on the back nine, which was great to see. Tomorrow the game plan is the same and I know we are all looking forward to getting back after it."
"We had a very solid day today as a team! We really played well as a team down the stretch," added assistant coach Dalton Stevens. "Finishing has been an area we knew we could improve on and today we did a great job of finishing. We got very solid even-par rounds out of Jackie and Ramya today. Both from tee to green were very solid. Natalia was aggressive down the stretch of her round and birdied the final three holes to shoot 4-under. We are looking forward to another great opportunity tomorrow."
Cincinnati: "Today was another good performance by our team," said head coach Janet Carol. "Anika, Alyssa, and Amalia all posted great numbers, even though they know they could have been better. Daniela and Angela both struggled mentally today, but we are positive they will come back stronger tomorrow. Today we met our outcome goals and we are proud of the effort by our players."
"It is going to take great performances from all five players to move up into the top three by the end of tomorrow, but this team is very capable of doing just that."
Gonzaga: "It was an OK day for our first look at this golf course," head coach Brad Rickel said. "We have to make more putts tomorrow if we want to move up."
JU: "Amanda's golf game hasn't been where she wants it and she has been working very hard," said Head Coach Jennifer Borocz. "Today, that hard work paid off."
Texas A&M-CC: "I thought we had a good team effort today," said head coach Joni Stephens. "We came really close to a great round. We started off a little slow - missed some short putts and had a few three putts - but settled down as we turned to #1. We made some crucial par putts, hit some good approach shots and dropped in a few birdie putts coming in which should give us greater confidence as we head into tomorrow's round. A big shout out to Kellsey Sample on her first eagle as a Division I golfer. It was 134 yards and she choked down on an eight iron."
Georgia State: “We made a few too many big numbers today which kept us from having a good score,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “However, it is a closely packed field, so we are definitely not out of having a very good finish. We just need to come out strong on Monday, make a few more birdies and we should be in good shape.”
