After being on the road for the first 10 games of the season, the SCF softball team (5-5) now readies for their home opening doubleheader at the SCF Softball Complex as they welcome ASA Miami (0-2) Saturday afternoon, February 15 at noon and 2 pm. This will be the first matchup between the two teams.
Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of their last series against Lake Sumter State where they won 7-5 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
At the plate, freshman Lauren Lightbody leads the team batting .400 with 10 hits and four RBI. Lightbody was 4-for-8 with two RBI against Lake Sumter.
Freshman Kristin Kopp has a team-leading nine RBI, while classmate Maddie Koczersut has a team-leading two home runs while batting .259. Kopp was 3-for-7 with five RBI against Lake Sumter, while Koczersut was 3-for-8.
On the mound, freshman Samantha Hampton is 1-1 with a 3.85 ERA, one save and seven strikeouts while classmate Ally Hulme is 2-2 with 13 strikeouts. Hampton is also batting .231 at the plate. Hampton pitched her first collegiate complete game in game two against Lake Sumter where she gave up two runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts. Hulme threw a complete game in game one against Lake Sumter giving up five runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
Schuerman 200:
Head coach Mandy Schuerman is on pace for another milestone as she will be going for her 200th career win as head coach for the Manatees. Currently, Schuerman has 182 wins in her name and needs 19 to reach the milestone.
Scouting ASA Miami:
For the Silver Storm, this will be the team's first official season as full-time member of the FCSAA after spending their inaugural season ruled as a "club" team where they went 3-19 overall. The team is led by David Fernandez, who replaced Geena Capitini after she stepped down in August 2019. As for their place in standings, the Silver Storm will be entered as a member of the Southern Conference.
The Silver Storm opened their season against St. Pete College where they fell 10-0 via mercy rule in the first game and 7-6 in the second game.
Sophomore Katherine Sugilio leads the Silver Storm with three hits and two RBI but is 0-1 with a 5.83 ERA and four strikeouts.

The Manatees are 7-1 in their home opening games.
