FGCU MBB vs NJIT Preview

The FGCU men's basketball team (10-16, 5-6 A-SUN) are hoping to bounce back at home as they welcome NJIT (18-7, 6-4 A-SUN) to the Alico Arena Wednesday night, February 13 at 7 pm. The Eagles are hoping to avenge the loss to the Highlanders from January 30 in Newark.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles are coming off of a 74-67 loss to Liberty and are tied for 4th in the A-SUN with North Alabama.

Leading the way for the Eagles remains with redshirt senior Shadarac Casimir. Casimir is averaging 14.7 points per game with 65 3-pointers made (2.5 per game). Casimir had 33 points in the loss against Liberty. In fact, the Iona transfer is averaging 19.2 points in conference.

Scouting the Higlanders:
NJIT sports a mighty 18-7 record this season. The Highlanders earned marquee non-conference triumphs over the likes of Colgate, Army and Wagner, while collecting league wins over Kennesaw State, Jacksonville, North Florida, Stetson, North Alabama, and FGCU. They have dropped league bouts to North Alabama, Lipscomb, Liberty and Kennesaw State.

Abdul Lewis (12.2 ppg, 9.4 rpg) leads the league in rebounding, while Zach Cooks (17.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg) is the third-best scorer in the ASUN this year. Cooks is also third for NJIT in rebounding behind San Antonio Brinson (7.0 ppg, 4.8 rpg), and Diandre Wilson (11.1 ppg) completes a trio of Highlanders who average in double figures.

Series History:
The two programs have met just seven times, with FGCU owning a 5-2 record in the brief series. Every matchup has come since 2016. The Eagles are 3-0 in Fort Myers and 2-2 in Newark. NJIT knocked off FGCU 66-54 on Jan. 30 to snap a four-game losing streak in the series.
