Originally, the series was suppose to be a doubleheader, but the second game was suspended with the Manatees being up 7-2 in the fifth inning. The game will resume at a later date.
SCF head coach Mandy Scheurman sent freshman Kailey Christian to the mound while Lake Sumter head coach Jay Miller sent sophomore Allie Geier to counter.
SCF would get on the board quickly at the top of the first inning. After sophomore Cheyenne Nunez began with a lead-off single. After Nunez stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Kyria Holcomb, Christian would send Nunez home with an RBI groundout to make it 1-0 SCF.
After Christian breezed through the first two innings, the Manatees added a second run at the top of the third. After a lead-off single, freshman Makayla Benavidez would do the unthinkable to get the second run in and stole home to give the Manatees a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Christian finally buckled and gave up a two-run homer to freshman Casey Allen. This was Allen's first home run of the season.
By the seventh inning, Miller decided to pull Geier and sent in sophomore Abbey Primavera to pitch in success, but after that, the Manatees managed hold the Lakehawks from winning and send the game to extra innings and invoke the Texas Tiebreaker Rule.
Freshman Madi LoCastro, who was the last batter out, was replaced by sophomore Lauren Botswick, who was placed on second before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by classmate Haley McFadden. From there, the Manatees managed to take the lead after freshman Sabrina Long sent Botswick home on a sacrifice fly to give SCF a 3-2 lead. The Manatees did not want stop there in the eighth inning and added insurance runs off of RBI singles from sophomore Sydney Parks and Nunez.
In the bottom of the eighth, with Allen placed on second, Christian managed to get three straight outs and win the game. Christian would earn her third win of the season after throwing eight innings. Christian gave up both runs on four hits, while walking four and striking out eight.
Geier would earn a no-decision after six innings. She gave up two runs on four hits while walking five and striking out one.
Primavera would earn the loss after two innings. Primavera gave up three runs on four hits while walking and striking out one.
