The Eagles are set to host A-SUN rival UNF at 5 pm Saturday evening at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles and Ospreys have split the A-SUN Championship each of the last four years with the Green and Blue taking the crown in 2015 and 2017.
Last Time Out:
FGCU fell in a close battle to FAU 4-3 but started off strong with the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams earning the doubles point. Additionally, sophomore Juan Montes (2-2) won his match in two sets 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and senior Felipe Escobar (1-2) claimed his match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 3. However, the Owls won on courts 4-6 as the outcome of the match on Court No. 1 would determine the final. Junior Felipe Ramirez (0-3) battled hard, but despite his first set victory of 7-6, he fell to Jason Legall in the final two sets 6-1, 7-5.
Preseason Coaches Poll:
FGCU was slotted No. 2 with 52 points as UNF finished ahead of the Eagles with 63 points and seven first-place votes. Liberty (47) was picked third as the Flames took the final first-place vote.
Stetson (43) placed fourth as Lipscomb (34), Kennesaw State (25), NJIT (16) and North Alabama (8) capped off the poll.
Scouting UNF:
The Ospreys have a 4-3 record and are riding a two-match win streak (those wins being against Mercer 6-1 on Feb. 8 and Buffalo 5-2 on Feb. 10).
In dual play so far this season, Dominik Barton holds a 3-0 record in singles, playing all three matches on court No. 3 while Sahil Deshmukh is 2-0 on court No. 2 and Till Von Winning posting a 1-1 record in the top slot. In doubles play, the team of Deshmukh and Jorge Nunez have combined to post a 2-0 record in dual action, collecting a win apiece on court No. 1 and No. 2.
