The SCF softball team (4-1) will open their first home series doubleheader as they welcome Santa Fe College (3-6) to the SCF Softball Complex on Saturday, February 9 at 1 and 3 pm.
Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of their first doubleheader on the road as they defeated Lake Sumter 5-2 in game, but their second was suspended due to inclement weather despite the Manatees being ahead 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth. The game will resume at a later date, yet the location is to be announced.
Leading the way at the plate is freshman Sabrina Long and sophomores Cheyenne Nunez and Haley McFadden.
Long is batting .429 (6-for-14) with seven RBI, even though she was 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Nunez is batting .471 (8-for-17) with four RBI and four stolen bases. She went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
McFadden is batting .375 with six hits and an RBI. McFadden went 1-for-4 against Lake Sumter.
On the mound, freshman Kailey Christian is 3-0 with a 3.08 ERA and 20 strikeouts. In her most recent game, Christian threw eight innings, giving up two runs on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts for the win against Lake Sumter.
Freshman Ashley Zientek is 1-1 with a 1.45 ERA and 11 strikeouts.
Scouting Santa Fe:
The Saints are coming off of a doubleheader against St. Pete College. They would fall 7-4 in game one before winning 11-9 in game two.
At the plate, sophomore Emily Yakel is batting .400 with two home runs and 11 RBI. Yakel was 6-for-8 against SPC with three doubles, a home run, five RBI and four runs scored.
Fellow sophomore Cameron Trehy is leading the team with a .481 batting average with a home run and 10 RBI. Against SPC, Trehy was 4-for-7 with a double and six RBI.
On the mound, freshman Gabrielle Mathre is 3-0 with a 2.80 ERA and seven strikeouts. In Mathre's last game against SPC, she threw three innings while giving up three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three. She is the only pitch with all three wins.
Series History:
Since 2012, the Manatees are 17-7 against the Saints. Last season, the Manatees swept the SFC in all four scheduled games.
