FGCU MTEN vs UNC-Asheville; UNCW Preview

The FGCU men's tennis team (4-6, 1-0 ASUN) will continue its long home swing with two matches in as many days at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles will host UNC Asheville (10-2)  for a meet at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 before facing off against UNC Wilmington (6-6) at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

"This is the first time we've played UNC Asheville and it's always fun playing someone new," head coach CJ Weber said. "They have the No. 1 doubles team in the country in their program so that's exciting, as well. We played UNC Wilmington last year and they are good year in and year out. That's a great match for us, as well."

Last Time Out:
The Eagles are coming off of a well-balanced attack against George Washington, earning a 5-2 victory last Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.  FGCU started off the match by continuing to build on its recent strength in doubles play. The pair of sophomore Juan Montes and freshman Pedro Maciel was the first to finish, claiming a 6-2 victory on court No. 3.

Juniors Feliksas Sakalauskas and Felipe Ramirez followed up with a victory of their own at court No. 2 that secured the doubles point for the Eagles.

In singles play, four different FGCU athletes earned points. Junior Marcelo Tebet, Montes, Sakalauskas and Ramirez all won straight-set matches at their respective courts to power the team towards its victory.

Scouting the Bulldogs:
UNC Asheville have yet to have any matchups in Big South Conference play as they entered with a 10-match winning streak before falling at College of Charleston (4-3) and at No. 48 FAU (4-0).

The duo of Henry Patten and Oli Nolan has been ranked at No. 1 in the nation in doubles play since Feb. 6 and currently owns a 7-0 record. In singles play, Patten owns a 6-2 record at court No. 1 and Nolan is 5-3 on court No. 2.

Scouting the Seahawks:
UNC Wilmington will face off against the Miami Hurricanes before taking on FGCU.

Michael Copeland and Cole Groetsch have earned a 5-4 record in doubles play at court No. 1, while Austin Hussey owns the best record of the team in singles play (7-2). Hussey is 1-0 at court No. 1, 2-2 at court No. 2 and 4-0 at court No. 3.
