FGCU Softball vs Monmouth Preview

The FGCU softball team (13-12) is back in action at home facing Monmouth for two games beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the FGCU Softball Complex. This will be the first time both teams meet.

Last Time Out:
The Eagles are coming off a 3-2 weekend in Clearwater, FL, highlighted by a 4-1 win over No. 21 Minnesota Saturday evening. In her last three outings, senior pitcher Riley Randolph has gone 3-0 overall with a 0.74 ERA with wins coming against No. 15 Indiana and No. 21 Minnesota. Overall she owns a 0.73 ERA which is good for seventh in the nation as her 121 strikeouts rank ninth in the country. Monday afternoon, Randolph was named the A-SUN Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.

At the plate senior Kate Kelly leads the team in hitting (.354) and is a threat on the bases going 13-for-14 in stolen base attempts.

Freshman Reedy Davenport leads the attack with 17 RBI as she hit two grand slams Friday, one against LIU Brooklyn and the other coming off Seton Hall. 

In the circle, Randolph leads the bunch with 10 wins in 14 starts, holding opposing batters to a .170 BA. The pitching staff as a whole has combined to post a 1.89 ERA.

Mrs. Double to Ms. 200:
Senior Racquel Fournet registered her 200th career hit with the Green and Blue (one of seven players in program history) in her first at-bat of the game Sunday afternoon against NDSU. In the process, she is now the only player in school history to record 200 hits and at least 50 doubles (54).

Scouting the Hawks:
Monmouth comes in at 11-8 after going 3-2 in Clearwater over the weekend. Last season, the Hawks went 32-16, earning an NCAA Regional berth after capturing their first conference championship out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Junior Kayla Rosado is one of seven players to start all 19 games while leading the team in hitting (.302). Meanwhile, three Hawks have driven in 10 runners.

In the circle, sophomore Alyssa Irons boasts a 10-5 record in 12 starts and leads the staff with a 1.86 ERA. The rotation has gone on to post a collective 2.74 ERA as batters are hitting .221 off them.
