SCF Tennis vs HCC Preview

The SCF tennis team (4-5, 3-4 Region 8) wrap up with their final home matchup of the season as they welcome Hillsborough (8-1, 7-1 Region 8) to the SCF Tennis Complex Saturday morning, March 30 at 11 am.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off a 9-0 win over NCAA DIII St. Catherine University. It was the Manatees first shutout this season and the first shutout since March 19, 2017.

In doubles, the team of freshman Britain Botsford and sophomore Diarra Thomas leads the team with a 5-4 record. The duo won their opponents by a score of 8-4. In fact, Botsford and Thomas have won three straight doubles matches at #3 doubles.

Botsford is currently 6-4 at #5 singles, including a 6-0, 6-1 win over Leah Obert while fellow classmate Sara Ramirez-Goncalves is the only Manatee in singles that has yet to lose a match at #3 singles. Ramirez-Goncalves is currently 8-0 in singles, which includes the 6-0, 6-1 win over Aubrey Eckstrom.

Farewell Sophomores:
The match against HCC will also be deemed as sophomore day for four seniors: Thomas, Sara Jamal, Camille Portalier and Laura Illanes-Rodriguez. All four will play in their last singles and/or doubles matches at home.

Scouting HCC:
The Hawks are coming off of a 8-1 win over Eastern Florida State while remaining in first in Region 8.

Sophomore Shaylee Syme posts a 7-1 record in singles at #4 singles. Syme fought in a three set match against Zulay Castaneda winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the win over ASA Miami.

Freshman Valentina Dancenco has also produced big numbers at #2 singles with a record of 6-1.

Series History (2012-Present):
The Manatees hold a 11-4 overall record as of 2012. Both teams met earlier in the season where the Hawks won 7-2. Last time the Manatees defeated HCC was on February 25, 2017.
